The African countrie must first stop corruption in their goverments. Most foreign companies bribe them to get permits to mine the minerals etc. and cut out local enterprise. Africa is the most corrupt continent as far as governments are concerned.

Sure, pretty easy. And that £3 hamburger you ate earlier will shoot up to £15, petrol prices will soar to even further record levels, clothing, even the cost of a new pc will become ridiculously high etc etc
Africa will then plunge even deeper into turmoil.
Unfortunately, everything is linked too tightly, Africa relies on the trade with us, we rely on trade with Africa. Yes, SOME governments may be corrupt, and that needs to be addressed 1st. It's a long road, and it'd be great if we could click our fingers and make poverty history tomorrow.
What everyone needs to realise is that monopolies create jobs in those countries, which generates income. Through taxes, the government and the nation grows. Without western companies there, where would income be generated from?
Sure, they can mine and produce things themselves? But who will show them the way, without education 1st, their resources are useless even to themselves.
Education is key, the governments and the people will only benefit. Who will provide the education....who knows?

no poverty in Africa is caused by inept African dictators who
loot and plunder, leave their people in the dark, no food no medicine, no future.
once the they have setup their Swiss Bank accounts they are good to go.
If there is a Coup they just leave on a Jet Plane for France and
live the good life.
Apartheid is over ...... been over for a while
most of the nations still struggle because their leadership,
this new leadership is as corrupt as ever
some things never change
you and Bono can throw all the money you want at the situation
it s not gonna make a difference
The UN ? you want the UN in Africa?
arent they the people who were raping young women in the Congo ?
you want the UN there ??
you might want to start reading the news papers - just a suggestion

African countries are the richest of all the other countries in the world in the form of natural resources. many of you have never been to Africa. what ever you say and think is what you have read from your daily magazines. they will portray that country as per their likings. the truth has become a scarcity.
every African countries depends on world market and is been totally controlled by the west. so you can understand that a seller has no options to the buyers. and so they control the economy.
this is highest standard of political fight among different countries.and the poor countries or underdeveloped countries have no options but to bend to the western likings.
yes they plunder the wealth and rob the countries because their foot is on top of all developing countries.
suppose i give you an order that i need 1,000,000.00 tons of oat next year and i tell you my dear i don't need them. or the world market is just half the price what we had discussed. what will happen to you.?

UN do anything but line their pockets, that is funny, they cant even wipe their *** without a consensus. The funny thing about your comment is that the west harvests all of these things , yet you fail to mention that they only do it with the blessing of those that rule and the only reason the west harvests them from them is because those dynamic leaders are only lining their pockets. To change that, start with stopping those country's from killing themselves, and teach them to look for something greater than themselves, like allot of us bad westerners do. By the way who says that we cause their poverty, where is your proof? I guess if I was liberal I could make up stats and call them fact. Like . . . We get 80 percent of our oxygen from trees. Now that I have said that it is a fact!!!!!!!! You asked a stupid loaded question and I don't know why I wasted my time on an answer

Good question. Christian Aid came out with more statistics this week that show the west takes back almost twice as much as it gives in aid, due to unfair trade and explotation.
As for the 'african governments are all corrupt' excuse for doing nothing - some governments are corrupt and most are not.
But hey if we focus on the ones that are corrupt, we can forget that we are part of the problem.

The proponent's question, not to put too fine a point on it, is bull****. Poverty in Africa is caused by indigenous regimes which would rather loot the country than foster sound economic development. Developed countries could help substantially by reducing tariffs so that African countries can sell their goods for hard currencies. An important economic principle, of which the questioner is evidently unaware, is that TRADE CREATES VALUE.

It would' not matter if the multi-nationals pulled out, because the corrupt politicoes would plunder the country any-way,they will always find a market for their stuff. The biggest problem poor people have in these countries is not the multi-nationals,but their own leaders.I lived in Kenya for a couple of years, the land is so fertile that if you planted a brick on monday, you'd have a bungalow by saturday, yet the people are starving.

If multi nationals leave Africa will be poorer. What ever emplyoment and wealth created in Africa is due to Multi Nationals only.Africans are technically and scientifically backward and they cannot make muck progess by themselvesIf Africans join hands with west and remove corruption in their own countries they may be able to progess.

We can only stop mutinationals from plundering natural resources from Africa by Africans not colaborating with them.
Most Africans working for these muntinationals because of a morsel of bread sell themselves cheap and help them plunder Africans.
If we are patriotic, we can save the natural resources of Africa for Africans
