I'm deployed in Iraq. My wife left me and left the bills going to some neighbor. I have to get a change of mail address so the car payments come to me in Iraq. However, for the first month I might be late on my car payment because of this and I've never been late. I also have to cut my joint account as well. She just left and never let me know anything. She did me wrong. That I'm not worried about, what I'm worried about is how I'm going to handle these bills, change of address, car payments, and all this other mess. She left me because I'm getting out of the Army (German), used me for the military paycheck. Plus, she's jealous of my momma, and it caused problems because she tried to hurt my momma by being mean to her purposely. No one hurts my blood especially my momma! She left back to Germany and took the kids with her. I'll be fine though. What are some things that I should do in order to get myself straight, should I also go looking for another female companion right now?

First, I'd like to point out that most banks/creditors will not try and repossess your vehicle for at least two months after your first missed payment, and probably will take no action until three months have gone by. Not that you want to let even one payment be missed (this can reflect badly on your credit rating), but you have some amount of time to work out the re-establishment of payments with your creditor before anything gets too serious. As a final word on this point, even after the bank "decides" to repossess your car, you can often times simply call the bank and make the necessary payments and then the bank will cancel the repossession order. Then you just go back to making your monthly payments normally. Of course, this assumes that you call the bank before it was successful in the repossession!
:-)
However, I strongly suggest that you simply call the bank that financed your car and let them know that you are going through a divorce, and while you are in Iraq it will be difficult for you to make the next few payments on time. Ask them how they would like you to handle these next few payments, and honestly let them know if you can accommodate their requests.
I think you'll find that given your never-been-late credit history, and your family and military situation, the creditor will be very happy and willing to work with you/postpone some of these payments until a later date. If you call them before your first payment (and even thereafter), I highly doubt the creditor will be mad, or even report a late payment to any of the national credit agencies.
On an side note, call the bank that has your joint checking/savings account and close the account. Simply preventing your estranged wife from having access to the money is a much easier way of protecting your resources rather than having to sue her for the assets in a divorce.
Good luck, stay safe, and may the Lord be with you.

First and foremost, this is not uncommon, second, don't worry about a woman right now, you have a lot more on your plate. As far as your car, you can set up an allotment that comes directly out of your pay. Talk to your command, explain the situation, I am sure they will help you in any way that they can. I don't think that anyone can reposses your car while you are deployed, by way of the sailor/soldier relief act. If you have access to a phone, I would call the company and explain the situation, and they will work something out with you. You could also talk with JAG and find out the steps you need to take to get your housing set up so that you're paying what you're required to your wife, and get the separation squared away. Good luck, stay safe, and I hate this happened to another one of our men.

Call/email the finance company immediately and tell them the situation. They will work with you. They want the money, not you car. You can get them to automatically withdraw the payments from your account. I suggest you open a new checking account too, to keep the wench from ripping you off any further. All of this should be able to be done online. Also, doesn't the Military have services to help you out in these type of situations? You might check. Good Luck!!!

First of all how do you know your momma wasn't mean to her... there are always 2 sides to every story. I am surprised you are so worried about your car when you said at the last that she is taking the children back to Germany with her... Hey, cars can be replaced, kids can't.
You need to get your priorities straight don't worry about the bloody car more than you worry about not being able to see your children.
Get another woman.. come on.. arent you in enough trouble as it is...

Go to the post office website and do a change of address form on line or print off the change of address and send it in the mail.
Open a new checking account with automatic bill pay (I would use www.usaa.com if you are in the US Army) and have your direct deposit sent to that account.
Call your loan company if you have the number if not you should not loose your car for one missed payment if you have never missed one before but find out their info as soon as passable.

Contact Jag and explain the situation to them. you need to designate a new POA to handle your finances while you are deployed. Do you feel comfortable having your mother do this? If so, they can start the process. You really need someone who has a POA for you and who can contact all of your creditors. For the most part, creditors will work with you when they see a copy of your orders and know in advance of the situation you are in.

They won't repo it for one late payment. Get in contact with whoever owns the lien on the car, and you should be able to work it out with them. You should also be able to make payments without a formal payment slip, and I would suggest setting up online bill pay.

Finding another female companion is the dumbest thing you can do now! Call your Mother, sister, uncle or another relative that you trust that can help you gather your bills and help you out of this mess since you are overseas.
