The pet shops I have been to sell little turtles for over $100 and that seems steep. I have seen places online that sell them for a fraction of that. Is it safe to buy one online?

I just moved into my new house and a neighbor down the street has a 24" red tailed boa in with a ball python. It is in a fairly small cage, has no source of heat, and is not well fed. I reached in to pick it up and it was very aggressive and tagged my hand, likely because the owner does not like to handle his snakes much and it is hungry. Aside from all this it is fairly healthy and though I am not really looking for another snake, I am thinking about taking it off of his hands to take care of it properly as it is a pretty snake and he is an idiot. I know they get to be about 8-10 feet, but how difficult are they to take care of compared to other constrictors? He is offering it for free, I will need to get a set up for it though.

I am really really really REALLY scared of snakes. Ever since I was young I was afraid to even look at them in books/pictures. If I see a snake show I get night mares. One time the family next door said they saw a snake in the backyard. My mom told me they were probably kidding, but all night I couldn't sleep thinking that maybe it is inside my house. I even started crying!! When ever we go to animal stores I CANT go into the reptile section even if they are in cages. When my friends mess around and say that they are going to buy me a snake I get really scared and end up not talking to them.I am going crazy?!!?!

I tried to come up close with a snake and touched it and I almost fainted.

What should i do? Anyone else have this?

They stay close together beyond what "the best spot in the tank" would indicate. They are both young snakes, about a foot long.

I am looking for responses from other snake owners regarding the topic, not anyone's opinion on snakes in general or the keeping of snakes.

As for me-I have just about concluded they really do show a preference for each other's company, especially when they are sleeping. Attributing an emotion to that may be going a little too far, I don't know, what do you think?

I just got two baby res a week ago that are a little over an inch. I've had baby res before, but I'm in college for now so it's taking awhile to get my tank set up. So right now their water is not heated and it'll be a few more days until it is. The problem is that they both refuse to eat, even when I leave them in heated water for awhile (an hour or two). Since I can't keep their whole tank heated and I can't leave them in a tiny container for very long (and I don't like moving them around if they're not eating anyway) I don't know what to do. I read that turtles can live for months without eating, but I don't think that applies to babies, and it's only when they hibernate anyway. Any feedback would be appriciated, I really don't know what to do. Oh, and I'm feeding them (or trying) pellets and freeze dried krill, which my last turtles LOVED.

How long does it take a beardie to grow to full term? Our little guy is healthy, eats well, very active and friendly and he gets all the vitiams He is suppose to have. I was told he could get to 24". Our little Ozzy is about 16" and will be a year in december.

I would like to know the easiest and quickest way to stunn or kill a mouse right before I give it to my snake. I really don't want blood all over the place and I would like the stunn to me enough so they don't wake up.
