After you've been around your iguana for a while you will create this special bond and you will know just by looking at it what it's feeling. But just to let you know, Open mouth gestures are the number one sign that they do not want you to mess with them. they are pretty much saying they will bit you if you come close. The second could be the evil eye on top of the open mouth gesture. They could also spread open their dewlap and puff up in a threatening manner. Head bobbing can mean that also, but this can also mean mating time, or they are trying to communicate. But this could also mean, being scared, or curious. the number one sign is the open mouth gesture. I recommend you do some research on iguana personalities so you don't have any surprises.
Owner of a 4 year old, 6 foot long, male green iguana.

It is really easy to tell if an Iguana is mad. When an Iguana gets mad it will start foaming at the mouth and start making a gargling noise.
After about 10 minutes Iguanas usually start to have muscle spasms if they haven't calmed down enough by this time. The muscle spasms are just a way iguanas releave stress.

If an iguana is angry, it usually whips its tail around and hisses alot. Sometimes, they will just sit around with their mouth agape.

They give plenty of warning signs such as puffing up their body and standing up tall, bobbing their head real fast, opening their mouth, and of course smacking you with it's tail.

They will puff up and slap you with their tail.
And some will bite. If they get hold of you they will not turn loose.
