i want to buy the fish that keeps the tank clean but i'm not sure if my turtle can live with the fish or not. i also just got a water filter, and i'm not sure how to use it. i already assambled it, but when i placed it on the tank with the long tube in the water, it started making a noise and any bubbles being made. can anyone tell me how the filter works? i am very new at having anything like this
thanks

The best species of fish to put in with turtles are African cichlids. The cichlids are tough and very smart, so they will not be eaten easily.
The filter should make bubbles and some gurgling noises. The bubbles are oxygen that the turtles and fish need to be underwater.

I have had a Red eared slider for several years now and nothing living has been able to share a tank with it. No plants No fish. The turtle will eat them all. The only suggestions to keeping the tank clean is an over-sized filter (one that is bigger than the tank requires) and a product called turtle clean. It is a liquid additive that helps break down the copious amounts of waste a turtle makes.

Turtles eat fish in the wild so any you add to the tank will eventually get eaten. I don't know what type or brand of filter you have so I can't really help you with that.

Fish: Turtles eat fish that are sized right to be food, so get either big fish, tiny fish, or armored fish. Don't use fish as a big part of your cleanliness plan, however.

Filter: Look up the directions for your make and model on-line.
