I have just purchased a flat pad style pad heater.
I need to know where or how these heater pads should be installed. should I...

A. Just put the heater pad under the news paper liner on the
bottom of the tank? if so
Is direct contact with the paper liner on top of the pad a
hazzard?

B. Put the element under the tank glass bottom? if so
How do I hold the heater pad up aginst the glass bottom?
Will a piece of thin (1/8") piece of plywood between the stand
and tank hold it?
The heater pad came with rubber stand off pads. Does this
mean that it has to be placed with air space below pad?

fyi - snake is a 5 yr old corn aprox. 46" lg., Tank is 55 gal. all glass

Thanks

Keith

My fiance bought a Ball Python last week (still a baby) and he fed him for the first time on Tue. In the middle of the night (wed.) we smelled something 'rotten'. It was until this morning (thurs) at 5 am that we saw him trying to regurgitate the mouse. My fiance had to help him b/c the mouse seemed to be stuck & he was breathing funny.
I THINK it was b/c he was slightly handled after feeding. The enclosure he feeds in wasnt suitable for him to be in for a long time (error as first time snake owners) so My fiance moved him back into his 'house'.
Not handling him & making sure the temperature is where it needs to be should prevent regurgitation. His house was moved the day after feeding to a warmer room in the house; so the temperature SHOULD have been fine. this morning (during regurgitation@ 5 am) the temperature was still@ 80 degrees, so i believe he regurgitated due to handling. My question: When should we offer him another mouse? & How long should we wait b4 handling hi

We live in Southern california, in the hot dry foothills. We have a half acre of already landscaped/fenced yard (1.5 acres total), two dachshunds and little kids. Specifically, what are the friendliest types of tortoise, and what types would thrive best here. We have mulberry trees, grape vines, dandilion, rosemary, roses, sugarcane, acacia tree, floss silk tree, Avocado, palms, fescue etc in the yard, and would like to feed fresh, local foods, what can they eat from our yard? What else can I plant/feed that grows in my area? What is the best housing, and any other general tips.

I have looked into corn snakes, yet they eat rodents, which my mother cannot put up with. It would be nice to have a snake which eats crickets or other small insects, or even a herbivorous reptile (if they exist). I have little to no fear of snakes, would like a snake that is not costly or difficult to care for (relative to other snakes). I would like a sizeable one, but not too big, like the size of a corn snake. Can a corn snake live off of crickets? I hope it would enjoy being handled, because I would want to handle it frequently. Help! I don't know much, but I know enough. Could someone help me with a breed that would suit me?

My red eared slider turtle is molting. Could that be the reason his water is cloudy and really stinks? I have to do a water change every 3 days cause the water stinks the whole house. I've had him for 4 years and this is the first time that i can't keep the water clean. with or without a filter. What's the matter?

they are diamond back. are kept inside in an aquarium which has pebbles at the base and a rock platform to come out and rest in the center. water is upto the central rock. also please guide as to what should be the watt of the heat bulb that requires to be put. they just keep floating flat as if they are dead which they are certainly not or are sleeping at the bottom of the aquarium on the pebbles with their heads pulled in and are not feeding properly at all. when i put them out in the sun then they are super active. please help and guide

this past sunday i bought 2 baby red eared slider turtles and they wont eat. i gave them the food i got when i first brought them home but i figured that they had already been fed that day and that's why the weren't eating. i gave them new pellets the next day and they haven't eaten them. so i tried giving them some lettuce and they haven't eaten that either!
Is it normal for baby turtles not to have a big appetite? or am i missing something?
