i would seperate it from the others and set up a "sick" tank withproper lghting ect. and pet shops sell meds. for turtles...it sounds like a uper respitory infection....and is probably contagus to the other turtles.....google for a herpatologist vet in your area...good luck...treat all of them with the meds too to be sure....

1. Eye film can be from dirty water, vitamin A deficency, or infections.

2. Open mouth breathing *can* be pneumonia, but it is not a typical symptom. If there are no other symptoms (runny nose, white stuff in mouth, noisy breathing, etc.)

Before I spent money on a vet, I'd try some home remedies- starting with a hospital tank.

- Isolate the ill turtle in its own tank of at least 10 gallons of water
- Heat the water a bit above normal, say 80-85
- Keep the water VERY clean
- No stress, noises, vibrations, handling, etc.
- Great diet
- Great lighting, including UV
- Think about adding 'StressCoat' to the water
- Monitor carefully. If things get better, great! Keep it in isolation for a couple more weeks to be sure. If it shows new symptoms, ask about those. If it gets worse, seek out a good vet.

Your care sounds OK, but I wonder about a few things:
- Size of tank. The rule of thumb is 10 gallons per inch of turtle With 4 turtles, you need about a 40 gallon pond. In a 50 gal. tank, the pond is probably around 25 gallons or possibly less.
- Lighting- are you including any UV lighting?
- Filtration- turtles are messy. most of us need 2 to 3 times more filtration than the same size fish pond would.
- Diet- you don't mention it,and it causes a lot of owners a lot of problems.

This could be from several different things. You need a squeaky clean tank with this type of turtle. You also need a really good filtration system. Using chlorinated water could be a culprit, or even a vitamin A deficiency,. Opening it's mouth like that, could be because he's afraid that he can't see, or a respiratory infection, or any of a number of other reasons! You should probably take it to a vet. You would have to check in the yellow pages of your phone book, and call some of the listings to see if they would treat a turtle. These turtles are high maintenance, and need the proper care. I'm sure you are giving it, but like any living creature, it periodically requires medical attention. I hope it gets better soon! Not being able to see must be pretty frightening to even a turtle!!

It sounds like a respiratory infection, probably pneumonia. He needs a vet right away.He most likely needs injections of Baytril,an antibiotic used for reptiles.I don't live in Florida,so I don't know of any vets there, just look in the phone book. But mouth-breathing is definitely a sign of pneumonia, and the eyes could be from that or from a vitamin A deficiency. What are you feeding them?Hurry to the vet though, turtles can die really fast from pneumonia.Good luck.

He might have a c old or picked up a bacteria. He could spread it to the others so maybe you should isolate him until you could get him to a vet that treats reptiles. Here is a page with more info:

You need to get him to a vet ASAP. It sounds like he has a respiritarory infection. TAke him out of the tank and keep him in a bowl that he can't get out of. Try to keep the water somewhat warm if you can (not much water at all- just enough to keep him from drying out). They'll probably give him antibiotics.

best thing to do is call a few vets around you and ask them if the take care of reptiles , if not ask them if they know who does, i think most of them know alittle about them
