I have an adorable five-year-old guinea pig named Cocoa; I was just wondering how often it is healthy to give them a good washing.

I got three chickens back around Halloween. After a few weeks, they started producing about an egg every other day, between the two of them that were old enough. The third turned out to be a rooster, which we gave away. That made my hens mad and they stopped laying for a couple weeks, but started up again and were laying normally. Now, several months later, I switched them to an organic layer feed (versus the old non-organic one) and they stopped laying. I switched them to an organic pellet (for layers), which they seem to like, but it's been 3 weeks and I haven't gotten ANY eggs. I only got 5 in the whole month of March, and NONE since mid-march..

What can I do to get my hens to lay again? We currently have about 14hrs of natural light, and they get 15hrs in their coop. They layed all winter... why stop now???

PS... these hens free-range in my large yard, but I give them layer feed in addition to the bugs, etc. they find. Also, I don't use chemicals in my lawn.

. What exactly is covered by the Menu Foods Recall and for what timeframe?

The recall is limited to “cuts and gravy” style pet food in cans and foil pouches produced on specific dates and times between December 3, 2006, and March 6, 2007 in two of Menu’s plants. The recall affects 42 brands of cat food and 53 brands of dog food. In order to determine whether cat and dog food that your pet consumed is subject to recall, you should refer to the list of brand names on this website.

2. What should I do if I think my pet may have consumed the recalled product?

If your pet is exhibiting any signs of kidney failure please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. Symptoms include loss of appetite, vomiting, weakness, disorientation and changes in water consumption and urination. If you suspect that you have fed the recalled pet food to your cat or dog, save any remaining pet food and the can or pouch. Open cans or pouches may be double-bagged in sealable plastic and kept in the freezer.

3. Who is going to pay my vet bills for sickness and death?

If Menu Foods product is the cause of sickness or death, Menu Foods will take responsibility. Menu has engaged a professional firm to manage your concerns and is currently contacting concerned pet owners who have reached our call center. Specific direction will be received from these individuals. Please keep copies of all your vet records and receipts for pet food purchases as well as vet bills.

4. What do I do if I have pet food that has been recalled?

Please return it to the retailer for a refund.

5. Will I be reimbursed for the food that I return to the retailer even if my pet did not get sick?

Yes, if it is a valid product that is subject to the recall.

6. How do I know if the food I bought has been recalled?

The information is contained on this website. Not all date codes are subject to recall so please fully check the information on your can or pouch. The information on the website is organized by cat or dog then by brand and description. None of the traditional “loaf” style products are subject to this recall.

7. I can’t get through to the 1-866 numbers. What is going on?

We apologize for the delay in answering every call; we were simply overwhelmed by the volume of calls. Menu has retained a series of interconnected call centers throughout North America. Even with many regional centers running simultaneously we have not been able to answer every call. As we announced in a press release on March 19, 2007, we have taken steps to significantly upgrade our call centers to handle the volume and we have added this Frequently Asked Questions (“FAQ”) section to our website to provide more information.

8. I feed my pet dry food. Is dry pet food safe?

Menu Foods only manufactures wet pet food in cans and foil pouches. Dry pet food is not part of the Menu Foods recall.

9. I’m just not sure if my dog or cat had any of the food that is being recalled. They act fine and don’t appear to have any symptoms. Should I be worried?

As always, remain alert for any changes in your pet’s health.

10. Are there other ways my pet might get sick and show similar symptoms?

Yes – antifreeze ingestion, certain rodenticides and some medications. Certain lilies have been shown to cause kidney failure if consumed by cats. Grapes have been reported to cause kidney failure in dogs and may affect cats. Physical damage from trauma and cancerous conditions can also cause kidney damage.

11. Has Menu Foods begun contacting consumers about claims?

The professional team hired by Menu began contacting consumers on Thursday March 23, 2007. This team worked through the weekend in an effort to get to as many people as possible. In order to assist in our efforts to contact these concerned pet owners as quickly as possible we ask that those who have already reached us to refrain from repeat calls.

12. Is there a time that it is easiest to get through to the 1-866 number?

The best time to get through to a representative is between 4pm and 11pm EST when the call volume is at its lowest point in the day.

We had a skunk that began to burrow a nest for itself right beside my house in my garden. My dad went out there to scare it off but it refused to move. It literally just layed there while my dad threw clumps of dirt around it, proded it with a 2x4, and made loud noises. I read that they usually go through a series of defenses before spraying but this one didn't spit, hiss, puff its fur or anything. It wasn't cornered at all, it had plenty of room to run away. It just didn't. Any thoughts?

This is specifically for two pet bunnies we have. I have bought a product at the pet store that takes the amonia smell out of the urine, but it is quite expensive. Is there a home remedy--something I can add to their water to deodorize the urine?

Can a captive animal that was bottle fed as a baby, be a mother? or will it not know how because it didn't learn from its mother? OR will its natural instincts kick in and it will just know how?

Although the pet community does have a point that millions of pets are killed and are crowding up the local animal shelters, but personally, I believe that spaying/neutering is a bit extreme. Just because I'm the pet owner doesn't give me the right to steal away a female pet's uterus? It's not min I don't think it's moral or fair. That doesn't mean that I support breeding, because I don't. Whoever does that is selfish. But that doesn't I know she doesn't have a human mind, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have a mind. You just can't understand it because it's not human. That's her decision to make, not yours. And then you force her to have to take care of her puppies. And when she squashes them, you get mad? If she wants to have kids, they'll have to be taken to the shelter unfortunately. B/c I can't afford to keep them. But like I said earlier, is there any alternative to spaying/neutering? Like surgically tightening or tying the uterus? Making it difficult to have kids but possible

I've been having a debate with my science teacher about whether animals have feelings. I'm sure that they do. Who agrees? Also, my cat laughs, has anyone else seen an animal laughing?

Does anyone else think that there are probably a lot of younger children on this site trying to act like "animal gurus?"

Some of the answers to questions I see are completely wrong and some of them dangerous. Maybe it's just people who think they know it all and don't....Then they go around and give some of the answers bad ratings that are actually very logical and good! Some of these people really know what they are talking about and then they get bad ratings.... Anyone else feel the same way?

Have any examples?

The thing is, don't trust what everyone says, especially since you dont know if they are younger or making things up or what... Especially if it's an imporant topic. This kind of worries me!

Thanks =)

Hey guys, so today my mom noticed in one of the piggies that his urine had some spots of white then she picked him up and it was all over his bottom. Is this a UTI? 'cause I looked it up and they said the most noticable symptoms are blood and squeaking while peeing, so what is it?

I need to think of a name... Here is some info:
It is a filly. She is half Fresian, half American Saddlebred. She is black with a blaze and has a stocking on her front left leg and her back right leg. She has a sock on the other 2 legs.

Her mother's name is Apple. Her dad is unknown. Except that he was a Fresian. We know this because almost every thing resembles a Fresian in the filly.

Will you please help me!!!???
thanks!
