I think you are right. People may give you the answers they think they know but actually don't..It's still best to do your own research before trying to consider other people's opinions. The internet has very wide source of information pool that you can access at any time of the day.

I sure if Yahoo could find a way to only allow over 17 or something in this site and maybe haver their own, but I don't know how they can do that.
I gettin' alittle worried that I am answering questions about things from kids that really shouldn't be asking these things yet.
than on the other hand if they know it and want to know the truch and are getting the answers anywhere else, this may the the best place for them.
still it's alittle uncomforatble, I tried to read the way the write and if I am not sure I watch what I say.
I recently was getting all thumbs down, I actually thought someone was following my answers thru my profile and doing it. but it stopped.
we should all keep an eye out.
thanks. for the heads up

I have seen some pretty dumb answers on this site, and I don't know if they are from kids or just ignorant people. I read where the best age to take a puppy away from its mother is 4 to 5 weeks. WRONG! I've heard the best dog food to feed is Pedigree or even Ol Roy. WRONG! I am not an expert, but before I got my dogs, I read and read and read about good food, proper vet care, spaying and neutering, and I feel like I can at least give a decent answer most of the time. I would never attempt to answer any questions about whelping or pregnancy, as I am not a breeder and never have been. When one asks a question, one should never assume the people on here are experts. Lots of kids and lots of ignorant adults! But I do enjoy reading all of it. LOL

Thank goodness someone else noticed, because I was getting worried I was the only one.
When I give advice, I try to back it up with a legitimate source (preferably a knowledgeable website) or my own personal experiance. I have given one wrong answer, to my knowledge, and that was when I told someone to get another male dwarf hamster to keep their first company. Obviously wrong, and thankfully someone else caught my mistake. But people come on answers asking how they would get a chipmunk to keep as a pet and someone tells them to go outside and catch one themselves...clearly a very VERY bad idea. It's also really irritating when someone asks "What should I feed my mini lop rabbit?" and a response is, "I don't know, never had one before." Why even waste the time in giving an answer? Just...agggh. Anger.
I agree =]

I don't think it's just children. There are a lot of ignorant adults out there as well.
It's a classic problem: the more information you get, the more you have to sort through it and figure out what was good, and what was not. Personally, I wouldn't use a public forum to get advice and answers; I'd do the research myself, since I'm going to have to do it anyway.
I'm only on the pet boards (guinea pigs, specifically) because I want to take the chance on keeping the animals alive and healthy for the people who will use the forums as the be-all and end-all of pet advice. Better to take some chance than no chance at all.

Sarah,
You are right. There are many that just answer questions for the points and give no valuable information.
Askers should ALWAYS research the answers that are given and attempt to choose the best one that fits their particular situation. (Or even choose another that is not).
I have also noticed that many of the questions asked can be answered by using the search bar (own research), it is so easy but so few use the search option.

Never trust anything that anybody tells you unless you check it out first. This isn't just when it is possibly kids telling you, but anybody of any age. This isn't just on this site, but any time.
I've seen some thumbs down on some very good answers here. And, it is pretty obvious when the answers are from kids, but when people are desperate, they may grab whatever they can. So I agree with you, it is something to be concerned about.

It happens on here all the time unfortunately. It's especially aggravating to spend 15 minutes typing out a response that was researched only to have someone come along and thumbs down it.
I actually had someone copy and paste personally written responses of mine a few times!
I don't know if it was to gain points or make it look like a paste. I'm not sure if that's included in what you mentioned but it's equally frustrating!!
I've learned that this is part of the YA way. I think what a lot of people tend to not realize is that no one on YA can actually treat or diagnose any problem: we can only offer advice.
People need to realize that one's veterinarian is the best source for information, diagnosis and treatment of any animal. Even the students/vet tech's on the site can only assume: they are not allowed to diagnose.
As for the kids, yes there are many trolls on YA in general, but it is my optimistic hope that people realize when information is off by double checking their sources.
Even when you are knowledgable in any topic/field, it is still possible to make mistakes, but if you see an abusive response - report it and thumbs down the culprit!
This will help to eventually sift out random trolls who come on the boards just to aggravate people and give them bad advice.
---
There you go .. everyone on here got a thumbs up from me, and I got the only thumbs down to the question.

I haven't really seen this too much to be honest. I have seen misinformation from time to time but not extreme enough to actually harm an animal. I am on here quite a bit but am usually lured to neutral questions such as yours or ferret questions.
So...for any ferret owners out there asking questions: I am not a child, I have owned ferrets for many years, I research them on an almost daily basis, I take every questions on here about ferrets serious, AND I give sound, serious, and correct answers every time!

the only one i've got examine is Frankenstein. the wonderful subject related to the radical to me is that it follows in an prolonged literary and folklore custom of transforming into a guy made guy, yet is distinctive in 2 important strategies. the 1st is that the monster is created by ability of technological know-how, no longer magic. nevertheless Frankenstein is self-taught in alchemy, he learns to be a ideal physician in a school, and it truly is how he constructive aspects the certainty to create a guy made guy. the 2d is that the radical upends between the long-held suggestions of the synthetic guy: it is he ideal by using fact he's no longer born of a woman. It replaced into believed that girls individuals bore the curse of unique sin (by using fact of Eve), and gave it to the lads they birthed. a guy born with out women individuals, it replaced into believed, could be with out sin. The Monster, of direction, is this form of guy. yet he shocks Frankenstein by ability of annoying a spouse.
