I just adopted two male rats (around5-6months old) I adopted them from a family that couldnt care for them anymore becuase one of the family members was allergic to them. They got them from a pet store, and they were sneezing since they got them, they took them to the vets for antibiotics, but that did help, I use carefresh bedding, so I dont think the bedding is the problem... what else do you think I can do for them? take them back to the vets for more antibiotics ? i always noticed some discharge comeing from there nose, I keep vicks rub by there cage, but that hasnt helped either, but other then that, they seem to be okay, playful, eating/drinking lots.

i don't no whats wrong with my dwarf hamster, i mean it never bites she wood she bites the cage bars instead, she doesn't like to take baths in sand like other hamies do, i mean she has a huge cage and lots of fun toys i dont' know why shes acting like this does anybody know?

We see many pet owners posting about problems they are having with their cats and dogs and they proceed to describe disturbing symptoms where it's obvious the pet needs professional treatment right away.
Many times they are seeking "home remedies" and say they "cannot afford to take it to the Vet."
so, my question pertains to that...

How would you advise pet owners who need help and possibly emergency treatment for their pets but simply cannot afford the fee?
Do you turn anyone away because they cannot pay?
How do you handle this?

My horse has laminitis, was overweight, not greatly but recently had her first attack. She does not go out to grass, but was slightly overweight due to me having a baby and not riding for six months and still continuing to feed her the same. Why does overeating cause laminitis?

i just clipped my rabbits claws, and as her claws are black it is hard to see the vein, so accidently on one of her nails i clipped the vein, it is bleeding but not much i know its not a big problem but does anyone have any tips on what to do

Both hamsters escaped this morning. HAMSTER ONE and HAMSTER TWO. Found HAMSTER ONE this morning soon but only found HAMSTER TWO just now. HAMSTER ONE will attack HAMSTER TWO furiously. However, they have been together for 6 months since born? they are dwarf hamsters.
Why did that happen? What should i do? please help!!!

I feed my dogs and cats Chicken Soup of the Dog/Cat Lover's Soul dog/cat food. It's full of meat with just a bit of grain and vegetables. It mimics what a dog would eat in the wild.

It doesn't have corn, soy or wheat fillers and my pets love it! You get a lot more food out of a can than you would with other brands, and it's not much more expensive than Iams or Eukanuba.

In your opinion, what is the best/healthiest brand of pet food?

It's a 10 gallon tank with a regular filter and a airstone that's not working very well. There's only one goldfish and 3 or 4 tiny snails. The frog is currently living in a 'grow-a-frog' tubetown (http://www.growafrog.com/TUBETOWN.html) with a sponge filter.

I have been looking and it seems that all they want to tell us is who makes the pet food product, why can't they just come out and say it's Pedigree or Mighty Dog or Kibble's N Bits etc instead of just the stores that sould the tainted food. Things would be so much less confusing if we knew what the brand names of the tainted foods where were not just where they were sold.
Our local Wal-Mart has posted signs that say Menu Foods have recalled some of our popular brands of pet food we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Just come out and tell us WHAT THE BRAND OF FOOD IS CALLED.

My guinea pig, Eden, is very underweight. She weighs 1lb 10oz. All of my guinea pigs (except the 3 babies) weigh at least 2lb. The weird thing is... even though she is underweight she is NOT losing weight. It is staying at 1lb 10oz. I thought that perhaps she is not eating but since she isn't getting any lighter she must be. It is hard to tell if she is eating or not you see as I have a cage full of 7 females.
Just want a bit of advice. She is going to the vet on Tuesday.

Supposedly they are tapeworms. I am really freaked and panicking. I have three cats and a dog. So far only one cat shows signs of the worms.But I dont know what to do, should I treat all my animals?What do I use to treat them?Could this be fatal to my animals?If the little segments of the worm i'm finding contain eggs, can they hatch and spread worms around my house? Also I cannot afford to bring all of my animals to the vet right now so is there anything i can buy at a pet store to deworm them (i'm in canada)?I'm really freaking out and worried and advice wouuld be greatly appriciated THANX

He seems comfortable and it's not getting any worse. I waited to see what would happen when I found it 10 days ago on him. Then I cleaned out his cage and found dried blood on the inside of his little house. Is it a tumor? What is it??

i was on the web a checked out "chicken soup for the pet lovers soul" and i was looking and they say that they dont use the wheat gullen that has been making animales sick and killing them. what do you guys think? should i buy it or have any odf you heared anything about this brand?
