If your guinea pig is making a noise and their body is vibrating it means that they are frightened. If they do this when you handle them its because they are uneasy, just keep giving them lots of cuddles and talk to them in a calm gentle voice and as they get used to you they should calm down.
or......
If your guinea pig is voluntarily letting you pet it and it vibrates with a low noise then it must just be purring to show that it is happy or content.
or......
A purring guinea pig is experiencing enjoyment/pleasure. You may hear this sound if you are petting your guinea pig. Purring does sound like a rumble (mating noise). A purr can actually have a double meaning. If it happens very suddenly, and you aren't petting your piggy, then this purr will sound much shorter and they will suddenly stand still like a statue (freeze). Its because they have heard a sound like the telephone ringing or a knock on the door and they are afraid of this sudden strange noise. They may just make this noise once or repeat the noise, depending on if the 'threat' has gone away.
Even stroking him on his head can produce lots of lovely purrs.
At times Guinea pigs show this to warn or love or even be afraid of something or someone...

Well it actually depends. There is a purring sound that means the guinea pig is unhappy, but there's also a happy purr. Unfortunately I have yet to tell the difference between the two. I think what I've found so far is that if their whole body shakes and they make a loud burring noise, they're unhappy, and if their body shakes and it's a quiet purr, then they're happy.

That "coo-ing" or "purring" sound means that the guinea pig is content. When accompanied by popcorning (which looks kinda like jumping and having a seizure at the same time), your pig is VERY happy.

When that happens it means that the guinea pig is happy. when you here that sound it is a good thing that means that you have a happy healthy guinea pig and that is all you can ask for.

it incredibly is frustrating to tell with out listening to the right noises however the squeaks and squeals are in many situations in simple terms cries for nutrition or interest mutually as the grumbling sound isn't any doubt considered one of the guinea-pig purring.
