I was just changing a cabinet door in the kitchen and dropped a 5/8" wood screw. Well, my French Bulldog ran over and ate it. He was chewing and gnawing on it for several minutes. But then he swallowed it whole, all while I was trying to get it out of his mouth. I'm not sure what this will do to him internally. What should I do?

I sure don't think so. 90% of dogs I see can't even open a door that is cracked by themselves, but almost all cats I see are smart enough to put their paws under the door, or even scratch at the side of the door to walk in/out. I also noticed some dogs I had in the past couldn't find their Milk Bone I through almost literally in front of their faces, but when I hide a cat treat, my cat finds it pretty easily. And I realize this is off the line, but cats are also much more physically fit than dogs. They are quick and agile, and have speed. Hell, kittens are cuter than puppies too. ( Hamsters beat both :) ) So what do you guys think? Cats or dogs? Which animal is smarter?

I'm new to guinea pigs, and I'm afraid I didn't do enough research on them before I took the plunge. My daughter fell in love with a male guinea pig and we took him home. The pet store didn't know how old he was but guesstimated that he might already be a year old when we got him. He is rather large. I don't want for him to be lonely or bored. At my daughter's urging, I got a second male guinea pig (who was from his litter I believe) and put them together. Anyway, they did NOT get along, and I was afraid they would do some serious harm to one another so I took gp #2 back to the store. So we are back to being a one-guinea pig family. But I still worry that the little guy will be lonely. Having done more research, I see I should have introduce them properly & slowly on neutral ground (etc) and perhaps gotten a younger male gp companion. Trouble is, I just don't know if I have the SPACE needed to house two big male pigs. Can ONE be happy? I worry so.

'Fixing' you animal is usually done at around 6 months.
Early age 'fixing' is done at around 6-14 weeks of age.
Are you for or against it and why?

i've been visiting some local pet stores and decided I would like to keep a hamster or maybe a gerbil.

I've researched them and still can't decide. I know gerbils are diurnal and hamsters are more nocturnal.

Any personal opinions? (hopefully people who have actually owned one or possibly both of these?)

thanks!

Our lhasa apso puppy was spayed yesterday morning, and we took her back home last night. I fed her a bit of her food and gave her some water. The only problem is, all she does is sit or lay down. She has no energy, and she has not urinated yet. Is that normal?

Please do not take this meaning that i am for killing dogs or cats but i read another post where someone was joking about killing a dog & cat and the majority beleive the man to be sick.

I just wondered how it came about to be acceptable to kill cows, pigs, chickens, rabits etc. where nobody thinks twice about the ways they are killed or the conditions they are subjected to. But any mention of hurting or killing cats and dogs in totally unacceptable?

Why do we see one type of animal as bacon on our plates, yet others as part of the family?
