He is very lethargic and is dehydrated. He hardly eats and moves at all. Last night I noticed a discharged after he peed and I took him to the vet. He was given antibiotics, a vitamin shot and fluids. I am worried it is something more like cancer. he is 2 years old. Please some kind advice is appreciated.

I have had pet rats that died from cancer. With small animals, by the time they start behaving dramatically differently than normal, they are really sick (doesn't make you feel better, I know!). They hide their illnesses well. I've found that the big difference between cancer and bacterial/viral illnesses is that the animal still has an appetite with cancer. With other illnesses, there is fever if the illness is advanced, which suppresses appetite. Try feeding him his favorite foods to check; if hard foods aren't possible, try a sweet such as cake. With rats, if they won't eat chocolate, I know they are VERY sick. (By the way, chocolate isn't very good for small animals :)).

Also, when small animals stop grooming themselves (begin to look scruffy, hair standing out instead of lying smooth, with swelling around the face), they are pretty far gone. Cancer, or not, their appetite may be gone by this time.

I hope this is not the case with your little guy! Good luck.

unfortunatley most hamsters only live to about 3-4 years. depending on how old he was when you got him-his immune system might just me shutting down. this would supercharge and viruses he could come in contact with. try doing an really through cleaning of the cage and replace all bedding. make sure to scrub any toys, food dish, even the waterbowl. this will kill anything yet to attack. keep giving the medication and good luck.

I am so sorry that your hamster is not well! I know how you feel, because my own hamster got a tumor and cancer. In his case, it was easy to tell. He had a rather large bulge sticking out of his side and I did some research and brought him to the vet.
I would bring your hamster to the vet again, and tell him what you're worried about.
Good luck!!!

I think that this is probably not cancer but you should get it checked out for something else because who knows their might be something seriously wrong anyway because not everything is cancer.

often animals of this variety will develop lumps in the form of cancerous tumors...........this is one way to know.
it almost sounds like he has eaten something toxic, would this be a possibility? have you changed his food lately, this may have additives that he may be allergic to, or could he have gotton into something....

check him for lumps. a cyst will move around as most are not attached to tissue, and a cancerous tumor will be firm and not move around.
