Our lhasa apso puppy was spayed yesterday morning, and we took her back home last night. I fed her a bit of her food and gave her some water. The only problem is, all she does is sit or lay down. She has no energy, and she has not urinated yet. Is that normal?

Its not normal for most dogs but Lhasas are not stupid and they can be very moody. Stubborn little snots . Just ignore it for now she will snap out of it. Anesthesia can be dehydrating and the fluids are needed in the body. Be sure to watch the incision and while she is calm put a little neosporin on it.

When I had my boxer spayed she did this too. It is normal. Your dog is still feeling the effects of the drugs from where they put her to sleep, and then after that she will continue to lay around because of the pain. She will use the bathroom eventually, she lost a lot of fluids being put to sleep and the surgery and all. Give her little bits of water and food if she will take it. Don't worry she'll be fine. It was about four days before my boxer started going back to her perky self.

This is normal. Remember she was given an anaestetic to make her sleep so will still be drowsy and tired. When animals have operations even small ones their body goes into slight shock so its normal for her not to be urinating. When she does urinate its a very good sign though. Remember to make sure she doesn't pull her stitches out

I'm not exactly positive, I'm no vet, but would you want to do much after having your private parts cut? I didn't think so. The urinating thing you might want to ask a vet about. But as far as the laziness goes, put yourself in her shoes and then decide if you'd have a lot of energy.

The resting and sleeping is normal, not the lack of urination. If it has been over 12 hours, you had best call your vet.

Yes, its the truama of the surgury. Dont push her. Try to coax her into moving around with food. She needs to be kept calm for a couple of days. As for urinating thats not a big deal yet. Give it till later this afternoon. If you have any concerns you should call your vet.

It is not normal. A puppy should be full of energy but that is not normal. Maybe you should go to the vet?

Female animals get anesthetic and it all depends how much, or how long they were under for... but they will always be groggy and sleepy for a few days after being spayed. (My cat sleep for almost 3 days straight) and didn't want to get out of her bed...(we brought the kitty litter, and food right next to her bed)

If you do not see your cat urinate or eat anything soon, I would get her checked out.

Very normal, she will be ok in a few days. She will be out of it for a while. Just pick her up and gently put her down to go to the bathroom. In time she will.

Not urinating is very bad news.

Take her back to the vet asap. She could be so sick that her kidneys have shut down and that will lead to death very soon.
