First of all- rat haters need not answer. That being said:

My friend has a pet rat that some how got a deep gash on its back. it's bloody and it looks painful. I've TRIED, and tried to talk her into taking it to the vet, and told her theres nothing she can do for it but she wont take it to the vet, because she says she cant afford it.

Is there anything she can do for him, other than taking him to the vet?

I dont think there is, and like ive already said, I've tried talking her into taking the poor thing to the vet but she wont. Ive had rats for years and usually know how to handle them but when something like this happens I dont try to fix it myself, I take them in to get professional help, so Im not sure how to handle this one.

I've had my Pigs for approx 2-3 weeks, and although they've made progress in that if you pick them up (if you can get hold of them after a brief struggle), they will let you hold them for a while and have once taken some food off my boyfriends knee after sitting with him for a while. But for some reason they are still really scared! They will come out of their sleeping box if you are in the room and potter around but you cant get within 3 foot of the cage without them freaking out and hiding.

We are very calm with them and dont have any children so it's not too noisy, but no matter how much cooing and stroking they still seem terrified! Food bribery doesnt seem to working either as they still wont take goodies out of my hand, and although I feed them at the same time twice a day (to get them into a routine), they still run away!

Help!

I've only had him for just over a week. At least oncea day he has been going crazy flapping his wings squaking and darting back and fowards in his cage. He's been flipping his head about up and down really fast.It only lasts for a couple of minutes. It's like he's scared of something but I can't see anything that could spook him. After he does this he seems a bit edgy and doesn't respond to me like he does any other time of the day. Is it normal and is there anything that i can do?

My uncle lives in a small apt, he's in his late 70's ,his apt has become over run with mice, previously not a problem because of his cat,(who lived to be 23) whose presence was sufficient deterrent for visiting mice and if it wasn't he killed them. So now I have the dilemma of deciding how to manage them, I have a problem killing them, when using the glue traps , I would listen to the crying and suffering for sometimes up to 24 hours, and I am still haunted, I would put the glue traps and mouse upside down in toilet for 5 mins so they would at least die fast. but I can't do this anymore, Is it better to get another cat? My Uncle would be thrilled at having company, but since there are so many is it dangerous to the cat? It shouldn't take long for the mice to realize there is a cat in the house..Is a kitten too small to handle it? Impossible to stuff steel wool into all the cracks, there are too many. I worry if there are so many mice to begin with if this can hurt a cat, I am not sure
