i am fostering 4 female mice for the week friday to the next monday and seems that one of the mice was pregnant and gave birth late last night to a litter of approx. 14 babies. does any one know when the babies gain their sight, when we can move them and any other helpful tips you can give?
thanks

their eyes should be open and they should have fur by eight days. do not touch or move them before then. it would be better not to move them until they are walking around on their own. see if you can keep the momma mouse and her babies until they are weaned since having her go from place to place will stress her and she may kill them even after they are walking around.

I can't remember how long it takes to open their eyes. I think it is around a week. If they are mice and not hampsters or gerbils, you can move the babies at any time. Otherwise they need to be left alone for a few weeks or the mother will eat them. Even if it is just a mouse, keep an eye on the mother because they have a tendency to occasionally eat their babies as well regardless of if you move them. If she does you will need to take the babies to a pet store so that they can get a surrogate mother.

Don't need to do a thing. Momma mouse will do all the babies need. Just make sure that the adults have plenty of fresh water and food. Clean litter as usual. Get their sight in about 7-10 days. As you only have them for a week, they will be fine as they are. No need to move them.
