Mastiffs are great dog but you are not going to run with one.
And they are not going to be the best around a Yorkie.
The Yorkie may be a problem for any other breed of dog. Yorkies are tiny but a terrier and they think they are a huge dog in a tiny body. They are fiesty and can be tought to get around other larger dogs. As they can be very tempermental about other dogs.
So be very carfeul about what breed.
And if you complex has banned the other breeds I am sure they are not going to take any type of mastiff.

A guard dog does not have to be big to be protective and tell the world that you need help. My 4lb poodle used to run the neighbors big Dobie out of the yard by just barking and running at him. Little dogs are just big dogs at heart in small packages. You really don't need another dog if your Yorkie lets you know that someone is walking on her planet without permission. If it makes you feel more secure get a panic button (devise you carry and push the button and it emits noise in the 100 decibel range) to send a would be problem on its way plus use the cell phone to call the police and report the incident don't just let it go the next person could be a real victim.

A boxer can be a pretty good protection dog. And yes, as mastiff is a good breed, but would probably prefer a night sleeping on the floor than running.

I would reccomend getting a American Bulldog or a belgian malinois the malinois is a commonly used police K9. The American bulldog is more of a visual detterent but can be trained for protection.

A german sheperd, boxer or sharpei should be a good guard dog when middle aged.

you might get away with a bull terrier, theyre good watch dogs, and can weigh up to 90 lbs. american bulldogs are big and sweet dogs, but your landlord might mistake it for a pit bull, they look very similar.
