Just a little fun question, if you could domesticate any animal and make it into a pet, what would it be? For me either a Penguin or Meerkat, or maybe a genetically shrunk Elephant...

Have just bought a house on half a hectare (approx 1 1/4 acre with house etc taking up 1/3 of this) and would rather spend money on an animal to keep the grass down than buy a mower.
Out: goats, alpacas.
Must haves:
1. Needs to have a friendly nature and not spook easily. We have children aged 9 and 13 as well as a pet labrador which is about 2/3 average size.
2. Only eats grass and not other plants/ property. Don't want any property vandals due to sheer size or temprement either.
3. Minimal supplimentary feeding - we don't want to be a major contributer to the Co-op owner's Landcruiser.
4. Low maintenance - we don't want to be a major contributer to the Vet's Landcruiser either.
5. Doesn't need a companion (alpacas fret) or if it does what is the 'stocking rate'/hect. or acre.
Preferences (not set in concrete):
1. No hooves.
2. Nibbles the grass off, not rip it out the ground.
3. Doesn't want to escape - saves on installing an electric fence.

Thanks

As I get older, they are getting pushed further back. The ones I don't care about are in my attic and look fine, but my good ones are out of a home. Anybody have a cool display idea that doesn't take up alot of room? I still have the original boxes for the good ones and am not ready to part with yet, but getting close. Thanks!

I know I have to find his beats per minute ect. but does anybody have any song idea that have worked for them in the past? Or hints on how to create and interesting Musical freesyle. I am not into classical music, my horse deas not have that personality, so leave that out unless it is a must.

The neighbors gave my daughter two ferrets a little over a month ago. The neighbors acquired them from someone else I believe, but they are only about a year old, or at least that's what the neighbors said. The neighbors didn't tell us they were giving us two out of control, nightmare ferrets. I've owned a ferret before but it was nothing like this. They run from us and hide and bite really hard. I've tried and tried to be loving and gentle and play with them, but they are so mean. The female is not as mean as the male when it comes to humans, but she does bite and she really hates the dogs. She runs up behind my lab and pit bull and bites them on the hind legs. My pit bull was asleep and she came up and bit him in the eye and was hanging from his eyelid today.

I'm at my wits end, but I can't see sending them to live somewhere else. I wouldn't want to put anyone else through what we go through and the ferrets have been moved around enough!

the husky of mine on the picture cracks me up when she turnes around and around in circles before lying down. Also when she has not been outside for more than 10 minutes and already has been digging outside and comes in with her nose full of mud. or when i can't leave paper in sight of her because she wil shread it to pieces. in a matter of a few minutes can tear and have torn multply rolls of tolet paper. o ya, and loves trying go get the tooth pase all the time to eat it.

ok people i understand the whole get your pet spayed/neutered thing,i understand why, believe me i do,i rescue unwanted and abused puppies and kittens and have seen some horrible stuff, but when someone on here is just asking for breeding advice or how to handle an animal's heat symptoms, why is it that most people feel the need to demand the pet get spayed or neutered i find it annoying,to gently suggest to a person who seems clueless is one thing but to demand to a pet owner that has decided to breed get thier pet fixed is just annoying, can't anyone just simply answer a person's question without the lecture?it is people on here who lecture that help cause the ignorance in pet owners, who wants to ask a question when you know your going to get ridiculed and or made to feel dumb, people get on here to get knowledge of things they are unaware isn't that why yahoo answers is here in the first place?

My parents have FINALLy agreed to me getting a hamster...

BUT

since my bat mitzvah is in april they dont want it to be a distraction to me.

then two months after my bat mitzvah i leave for sleepaway camp for 6 weeks.

then i go to Greece for 2 weeks

So i would have to wait until late August to get it because my parents don't know what i would do with it over the summer.

Are my parents right about this?

If not any suggestions on what to do with my hamster 8 weeks??

thanks! all answers appreciated!

Right now I am at petco.com trying to pick out a cage for the teddy bear hamster i will be getting soon. I've only had a hermit crab before...so lets just say with animal habitats im clueless.
Can someone please tell me what kind of cage they have, if you are satisfied with it, and if possible a picture of the cage?

thank you so much!

We have a very friendly yellow lab who loves to chase squirrels, birds, anything that moves in our backyard. We also have a guinea pig. The guinea pig and the lab get along very well in the house. Is this normal for a Lab? I know that Huskies and many other dog (esp hunting dogs) aren't good with guinea pigs, do I have an extra friendly lab or is this normal?

I recently bought my daughters a black bear hamster. He looks skinner than when I first bought him 2 weeks ago. He was a Valentine's gfift to my daughters. Will he get bigger than the normal Syrien Hamsters? Are there any special treats I can give him to help fatten him up? He gets the normal Hamster feed, but it seems like he doesn's eat much of it. He kinda picks and chooses what he wants out of it. I did give him a Saltine cracker and he loved it. Any Hamster owners out there, please give me information that you may have. Or any good sites. He is currently in a 10 gal tank with a topper. He has a metal wheel I know they aren't suppose to have those. But that's all Wal-mart had, we don't have a petco or petsmart around here. Thanks!
