I love dogs, but I work full time so I'm concerned about leaving them on their own all day. I would like a pet that will give me a feeling of companionship, so something like a goldfish simply won't do. Any suggestions appreciated. Are cats in particular a good idea? Are they ok on their own for longish periods?

Everything I use for our two male rats makes their cage stink in like three days. I want something that I can use that will make it smell a little more fresh. Does anyone know if any cat litter is o.k. to use? Thanks!

She is a Campbells russian dwarf, and shes about 2 monthes old. she was hyper from the day i brought her home, never a dull moment, shes always awake i hardly see her sleep and shes always running about her cage like she needs ridlen. i can hardly hold her in my hands because she is so fast...its not a bad thing i supposed im just curious as to if other dwarf hamsters act this way. i also have a siberain dwarf hamster that is male in a seperate cage and hes the total opposite of her, calm and sleeps all day long.

Scruffing is when you pick up a hamster by the excess skin on the neck and back. I scruff my hamster so i'm able to trim his nails, i DO NOT randomly pick him up this way. I only do it because its the only way to get him not to move. Also, is this a good way to trim the nails of a hamster?

since humans will get what they want until the last animal is dead, dont you think it would be better to supply what they want then have them continue to rape the wilderness of the last of these creatures? isnt it better to raise these animals (only in a humane way as well as their slaughter) for their fur or meat (such as turtles) rather than illegally kill them in the wild until they are truly extinct?

I opened a business and I need some advice. If you were dealing with a place that did grooming, behavioral training, counselling and behavior modifications for your pet no matter what species, what would you look for? How much would you want to pay? what services and or problems would you want help with? And what advice would you give?

I am sick too, with some type of throat-hurting cold. I wonder if I gave it to them?
What other sicknesses can they have? I just changed their bedding today. I noticed one had eye discharge just recently, and right now saw stuff in her nose. I looked at her cagemate, and her nose was stuffed up too. Their fur isn't so soft, but not really rumpled.

If people only knew how smart, sweet and lovable these animals are they would be surprised. Rats have a bad rep but they have done a lot of good for us

I've had a lot of ferrets and they all ate as much as they should and stayed thin. I've got a 4 month old girl and she always eats. I just started noticing it show recently but she's pretty chunky compared to the other ferrets i had, especially for a girl. Considering ferrets are supposed to be able to control their eating, how much food should I put out daily for her to reach a healthy weight. BTW I am feeding her high protein kitten food. Do some ferrets gain weight during winter?

i have 5 years customer service experience such as cashiering. i have volunteered at the humane society and a dog ranch, shadowed a vet at a vet clinic. however i do not have any vet clinic experience with animals of that nature. so how do i get a job at a vet clinic as a vet assistant without previous experience? i do not want to be a vet tech, just a vet assistant, i heard they are trained on the job, but getting the job is the problem. how? help.
