i have 5 years customer service experience such as cashiering. i have volunteered at the humane society and a dog ranch, shadowed a vet at a vet clinic. however i do not have any vet clinic experience with animals of that nature. so how do i get a job at a vet clinic as a vet assistant without previous experience? i do not want to be a vet tech, just a vet assistant, i heard they are trained on the job, but getting the job is the problem. how? help.

Many vet hospitals would love to have you!
Your experience with the humane society and customer service are both a big plus. Just call around to see who needs help. Apply for any job they offer as you can always move up from kennel help or receptionist to assistant.
Most veterinary assistants are trained on the job. You'll start out as a cage cleaner/dog walker at first and progress in your responsibilities as you show you dedication and willingness to learn.
We have many different "levels" of vet assistants at our practice. A lot started out as receptionists who wanted to be more hands on.
Some just clean kennels, some help with restraint, some will take patients into rooms and get history, some do lab work, some do minor procedures like blood draws and ear cleaning, some do surgery instrument prep, and some help as assistants to the anesthetist in surgery.

Veterinarian assistants do not do to college for that interest. you are able to have training to be a Veterinarian Technician or Veterinarian, yet not an assistant. in actuality, many assistants are Pre-Vet med pupils. And no, in basic terms a veterinarian would EVER do surgical operation or practice drugs as an entire for that remember. you will do place of work work, according to danger answer telephones, carry the animal mutually as getting a shot, sparkling out cages, and so on. A tech has extra duties, yet nonetheless can not practice drugs. you will do a fecal pattern or help with a technique, yet as quickly as returned can not legally act as a veterinary physician.

I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you. I take a Vet. Asst. class as my major everyday for high school. You should go to a vet. clinic and ask around, not to sound stupid or anything but taking real advice from people off the internet may tend to confuse you, so try talking to someone in person or have someone on here explain it to you step by step. =]

just make up a resume highlighting you animal care experience and if you are willing to work odd shifts for awhile- just let them know that you'd be willing to start out as kennel help. that's what i did. i used to just work the weekends walking/feeding/medicating the oarders and hosptalised patients, and then just worked my way up. the pay isn't great - but it is a pretty rewarding job.- good luck!!
