Is this harmful? I've had over twenty some hamsters but they never ate glue.

The glue won't harm them at all. The worst that will come of it is that you won't ever be able to use the aquarium to hold water again! Unless of course, you know how to reseal it.

I'm surprised that none of your other hamsters haven't eaten the glue. Digging and knawing at the corners is a favorite pastime for hamsters, most small animals really, in aquariums. They are not actually trying to eat the glue but are using their claws and teeth to remove it to get that one step closer to freedom.

It is trying to escape. This is very normal and since the glue is set up and dry, this too will pass (ha! ha!) but true.

Past history with pet hamsters in aquariums.

eww a glue eater Naw just kidding

Glad to see mine is not the only chewer ...

Mine seemed to know just where the metal part connected to the plastic bottom and has literally chewed through four plastic hamster cages allowing him to escape every time .

Which go to wonder why in the world would anyone invent "plastic cages" for critters that chew . :( I finally ended up keeping him in a glass fish aquarium just to keep him from chewing his way out and hes hated me every since . Not that he hasnt tried everything known to mouse kind to escape that from lodging his wheel with his shreddings to the annoying constant scratching through the glass.hopefully he dont discover your hammys trick and try to chew the glue off it .:)

No, the glue will not hurt your hammy. But to try to stop this behavior make sure it has plenty of toys and things like chew sticks to play with and chew on.
