Skunks have two glands, on either side of the anus, that produce a mixture of sulfur-containing chemicals that has a highly offensive smell that mis strong enough to ward off bears and other potential attackers.

For defense.

The smell is a chemical compound released to drive away things that would eat a poor defensless and slow running skunk otherwise.

They have anal glads that are capable of releasing the spray, which is used to deter predators.
But not all skunks smell. :-) Some people keep them as pets, and have them descented, like ferrets. They make sweet, yet demanding pets.

they usually dont but if they are threatened they spray a stink cloud ,to anoy the attcker
the samething as a squid squirting a cloud of ink ,so that they can escape

well, you see, thy are samll, right, so, that means they need some protection right? so these, litle creatures have this defence, the smell, so...lol...so this is why they smell, to protect their small litle selves. ^_^
