They could of but this 160lbs cat would always be a threat to people everyday and if I worked at a zoo I would NOT feel safe anywhere near this cat

I'm sure it was a react first think later type of situation, they were trying to save the zoo keeper and killing the animal was the first reaction. And as it's been said before, drugs need time to work...
My problem is that from now on most people will put the blame on the animal when the majority of it should be placed on the person that entered the cage. She was trained and had to know of the policy of not entering the cage while the large cats were in there, so what in the heck was she doing?? The jaguar really didn't know any better, was just doing what came naturally....and unfortunately 2 lives were lost in the process......
So sad

The tranq. takes a little bit of time to work while the gun is instant.
They had to react to save countless lives.
What I'm more concerned about is how these zoo animals keep getting out. I'm not talking about the loons that go into the pin, I'm saying the animals are literally getting out. I mean less than 3 years ago a Gorilla got out at the Fort Worth Zoo and they had to shoot the Gorilla dead. And that's not the first time I've heard about zoo animals on the loose.
I wonder just how safe zoo's really are for humans and for the animal's if they keep getting out and shot?

It takes up to 15 minutes for injected tranquilizers to take affect and the injured zookeeper couldn't wait that long.
Movies and nature shows make it look like the dart hits and in 5 seconds the animal is sleeping, unfortunately that's not the case.
The jaguar pays the price for the zookeeper ignoring the rules and entering an enclosure with a giant predator, that's the sadest part.

a tranquilizer gun would have taken too much time. by the time the drug would effect the animal, it would be to late. the girl died even with the quick respose of someone shooting it. you would have to wait until the thing fell asleep to get the animal off of her. and even if the girl would live, you can't trust it after it attacks a human. i would just like to know why she went in there?
there's more to this story. we'll all just have to wait until they piece it together.
yes, it's sad when an animal has to die because it does something like this. but if was attacking you, what would you want your rescuers to do? think about that for a moment.

The cat is killing a human. Some how. drugs just aren't fast enough. plus tranquilizer guns are single shot, most guns are at least six. There is no time to reload in that situation

these things happen. At my zoo a few years ago, they shot the wolf because a customer trespassed and bit her, they shot it. I worked there and one of my cop friends there told me it would have taken too much time to get the tranq gun and once it tastes human blood, u don't know what the behavior will be after they had blood. Its is sad.

Tranquilizers take time to work. I'm sure they didnt want to have to shoot the Jaquar(zookeepers usually love and care about their animals.) The jaguar had already attacked one person and they were trying to save her. They didn't want to the jaguar to have the oppurtunity to hurt any one else. I wish they hadn't had to shoot it but sometimes things like this have to be done.

They should have. They never should have killed an innocent animal that was only doing what it's instencts were telling it to do when a human who was not following the rules or even common sense was at fault.
I feel sorry for the jaguar.
