I have freshwater, brackish and saltwater tanks.
I've read through questions and answers here for quite a while. I am amazed that some of you people can keep fish alive at all. Even some of you so called fish experts. I know I've still got a lot to learn... Everything I know, I've learned from experience, or reading. The reading only helps to a certain point. You can find 3 different things about the same fish, but they all say different things about them. I've given up asking people at the pet stores... most of the time, what they tell me is completely wrong. Never trust anything that people at PetCo or PetsMart say. I've only met 2 people that worked at those places that had a clue. There are a few people on here that I can tell have a clue about fish, but not many. Why, if you have no experience or knowledge of what a person is asking about, do you answer the question? All you're doing is giving bad advice and killing fish.

I found my large plecostomus on my floor, he was there up to 8 hours. I threw him back in the tank because he was still alive. He now has scales missing and his fins are deteriorating. My tank water is red which makes me think he's bleeding. Should i seperate him from the other fish or should i find a humaine way of putting him down? He is eating and swimming around so I have no idea if he's going to rehabilitate...What should I do?

Hi. I'm not really a starter but I have a 55g tank and can't seem to keep my fish living. Everytime I purchase a pleco and Gouramis they all die but two. I do clean the tank 1/4 a month with my viper. Just don't know what it is that I am doing wrong. Is there anyone that can help me with advise. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

We had a 10 gallon but our guppies had too many babies, so we upgraded to a 20 gallon (and kept the 10 also). To start, we put the water from the 10 into the 20 so they'd have their good bacteria. We filled the rest with new water and put in all the chemicals to get rid of ammonia and nitrates, we even put in a little aquarium salt. Now it smells like dirt, like fresh potting soil!! It's so strong even around the tank with the lid closed. What can I do?

I have a large caecilian in my aquarium and I absolutely love him. He is thriving! Anyone else have one? What sorts of treats do you feed him? Mines favorite is earthworms. Its amazing to see him hunt the worm down and swallow it whole. Any interesting facts about them that I may not have found in my research? I know that they are not fish, before someone puts their claws out. They are amphibians. I just put this under fish because they are for your aquarium.

I started a "fishless" cycle about three weeks ago by just feeding the tank. I've been testing it daily and everything's the same as when I started. Nitrates and nitrites are low, PH is pretty high, ammonia is low. There has been no spike in any of my readings. I just noticed the water is starting to get a little cloudy (although my readings are still the same). Can anyone help? I'm getting a little frustrated.

I have two catfish in my fish bowl, one is an albieno and the other is brown colored, there is a question i would like you to answer, the brown one, which i do not know the sex of it, uses the thermometer to get very excited with it and slide its body up and down it, now this morning i noticed the albieno catfish, is looking very excited with the brown catfish and doing the same thing. Have you ever seen catfish in a fish bowl with other fish mate and have babies, and are they egg layers or live births, like the guppies in the same bowl. Thank you in advance... Doris

I would like to set up a 10G fresh water aquarium. I have the tank setup and bought rocks.

I plan to buy fake plants. Where should I put them and how dense should they be? Should the rocks be flat across the bottom or should they slope?

I plan to purchase any of the following: guppies, cichlids, angelfish, guaramis, tetras, barbs, etc.

How many happy fish can I actually keep in my tank? Should I use the 1" / 1G calculator?

Is it true they will be melancholic if not kept in a school of 5+?

Also, there are other fish in the tank too. Will they eat the babies? Should I take them out of the tank?

I was told at the pet store that a snail would do fine in a beta tank. My boss has a tank with her beta, but does not have a lid on it. Pet store said the snail won't climb out, but I'm not convinced. Anyone know for sure?

My goldfish has been acting very idle these past few days. He has not been very active, even when I approach the tank, almost as if he's sleeping a lot. What are the causes and prevention of goldfish idleness?

He has also developed some white fungus on his upper lip. He has had this before, and I bought some stuff to put in the water to help it, and it did, considerably. This time, it's not working so well. What else can I do? Or are there some very exceptional products?

One more thing... He has a bruise on his left side. I'm not sure if he ran into something in the tank or not, but it's very red like there's internal bleeding. Any causes or suggestions?

I have a spotted green puffer, and i'm pretty sure he is dying. Two of my other fish in the tank had ick so i treated it, and it's still there. But my puffer was fine until yesterday night. He looks very sick. He can't use one side fin, and just floats w/ the water current, or sits on the bottom of the tank. I'm very worried about him. Any suggestions on how to get him better? or not let him die? would it help to put him in a seperate plase for awhile? any suggestion please.
