I have a large caecilian in my aquarium and I absolutely love him. He is thriving! Anyone else have one? What sorts of treats do you feed him? Mines favorite is earthworms. Its amazing to see him hunt the worm down and swallow it whole. Any interesting facts about them that I may not have found in my research? I know that they are not fish, before someone puts their claws out. They are amphibians. I just put this under fish because they are for your aquarium.

We have had him for close to a year. When we bought him he was around 5 inches long. He is now going on 20 inches and is as big around as your thumb.

I do not have one now, but I did have one for about 1 1/2 years ... sigh.... :( Mine also loved worms. You probably already know all this but... I learned that you should not have any other fish or amphibians that may compete with them for food as it may take him a while to find food because they mainly use scent and eat mostly at night. I bought a tube that is used mainly for knifefish that is clear and buried it about halfway and it was great until it was outgrown (not long enough) . i loved being able to see him and it is my understanding that because they don't really have functional eyes they don't know that it is clear. I used vegatation to shelter it from the light - I was told that you should not use too much light as they are "cave-like" and i guesss it could cause health problems - and give them plenty of hiding space or they will burrow. When mine died I found out that they don't usually live very long... (max about four years in captivity but longer in the wild) but ANYWAY... you may need to prepare yourself... bEST OF LUCK

I don't know beans about these ugly devils, but I'm glad to hear that someone is actually keeping one alive in a home aquarium. How long have you had yours?
