I have two catfish in my fish bowl, one is an albieno and the other is brown colored, there is a question i would like you to answer, the brown one, which i do not know the sex of it, uses the thermometer to get very excited with it and slide its body up and down it, now this morning i noticed the albieno catfish, is looking very excited with the brown catfish and doing the same thing. Have you ever seen catfish in a fish bowl with other fish mate and have babies, and are they egg layers or live births, like the guppies in the same bowl. Thank you in advance... Doris

No, they will not mate and are not exhibiting spawning behaviour. It is most likely that they are attempting to climb the thermometer to get out of the bowl. I am assuming that you're refering to corydoras catfish, right? These fish belong in no less than 20 gallon tanks, as they are active schoolers. In a fish bowl, the ammonia would build up so quickly that the cories are looking for a way out of the bowl.

In a larger tank, they would possible spawn and they are egg layers, no livebearers.

i have an upside down catfish and he stays by the heater which is next to the thermometer so check that out first. Catfish dont like cold and if its cold in your house then they will go to the heater component. You will know if a catfish is excited if his fin stands straight up and he is in full color. When mine is not liking his enviroment his color fades to grey but when he is happy his color turns dark brown. I have never seen a catfish mate since I only have this one weird one that nudges his tail in the crevice of a rock and hangs upside down all day. I do notice that at night he loves to swim around upside down of course so I know he doesnt like alot of light. Catfish by nature like dark spaces.

Your question means nothing to anybody unless you can tell us what kind of catfish you have. There are literally hundreds of thousands of different species of catfish. Are they cories, plecos? Those are the most common types. Look them up and see if you can find out what they are.

Are you joking? Uses the thermometer to get excited? Come on now. There are other sites for comedy.

their not getting excited sounds like their itching which is the first sign of ick, those types of fish should not be in a bowl but a properly set up tank
