Ok, I realize something is obviously wrong...I have 4 fancy goldfish and they are all breathing very shallowly and are upside down. Please help, I don't want them to die! I tried taking out some of the water and replacing it- could they be in shock or just stressed out?

My Betta has gotten his stomach swollen and he just lays on the bottom of the tank, he doesn't move anymore and is unactive. What do I do? What kind of disease does he have?

The tank is filtered, aerated, slightly planted (some Java Moss), with a little salt in the water.

The rule, I've been told, is one gallon per one inch of fish. At 10 gallons to 6 fish, I think they've all got a little more than a gallon--they're all about an inch (not including tail).

I was stupid and didn't let the tank cycle all the way before adding them, so there's been a little stress with nitrite spiking. (Never doing that again.)

we live in a small town with a HORRIBLE water system. some areas of town, the water is better than others, like my house isn't too bad, but the office is horrible. my new tank is going in the office, and i don't want to fill jugs of water and haul them, it would just be easier to get bottles from the store, so, my question is, should i use reverse osmosis water, drinking water, or purified water????? or should i just give them Culligan??? lol

any help would be great, thanks!! and please, no smart a$s answers.........

I have 3 bettas in a 10 gallon tank with dividers. One day I decided to take the filter from the middle divider and put it in one of the other side. My betta was fine before but since i put the filter in his side, he's been depressed, not moving and his face is getting white. Should I put the filter back in his side? What's wrong with him. This happened before and the previous betta died. What should I do?

At first I thought it was overfeeding, then I thought it was dropsy, but now I'm sure he has a tumor. The fish is a betta, if it helps. This fish has always had a very swollen belly, but it's grown a ton now. It almost looks like he's pregnant! I'm sure I'm not overfeeding. I haven't fed him for 3 days now to see if it helped. I'm not going to be sad if he dies, I just don't want him to be in any pain. Is it really a tumor, and what else can I do but watch and wait?

I just got my betta three days ago and he has been very active ever since I put him in the tank. The second day I had him, he built a large bubble nest and it was there for two days. This morning I got up and the nest was still there and then a couple of hours later, I looked in the tank and the entire nest was gone!! My betta is the only fish in the tank. The whole day he has been laying in the plants and comes out every once in awhile to get air, but then goes back into the plants and just lays there. He is in a 5 gal tank, with a filtration, and fake plants. I have checked the water for ammonia, nitrate, etc and everything checks out fine. Is he upset about the nest. He is the only thing that could have destroyed it. Anyone know whats wrong with him?

I have three cories in a 30 gallon tank. The only other fish in the tank right now are neons and otos, and the stocking density is light. Two of the cories act perfectly normal. One originally did, but within the last week or so has taken to swimming frantically up and down the glass. I've never seen a fish swim so frantically in my life. I've tested practically every water parameter known to man (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphorus, iron, CO2, pH, gH, kH...), and they are all perfectly fine. The tank is heavily planted with live plans and DIY CO2, but the CO2 is supposedly in the low range (lower than it should be for the plants) and all the other fish are acting perfectly normal. The other cories are as laid back as can be, and I can see nothing physically wrong with this fish. Occassionally he calms down and stops pacing, but he seems to spend the majority of his time doing this. Any idea what's going on?

I recently got two baby kuhli loaches from my local fish store. I am experienced with loaches, and have a tank devoted to them, planted and with 74 degree water. All my water parameters are perfect, I drip acclimated them when I first got them home, and all my other fish are happy and healthy. The baby kuhli's will not come out at all, they are buried in under the substrate, and it has been about a week now. I thought they would get used to their new home by now, and I have never had this happen before. Two days ago I cleaned my aquarium, and to do so, I had to remove them from the tank and briefly place them in my hospital tank. One of them looked very skinny to me and I don't think he's been eating. When I put them back in the main tank, they immediatly burrowed into the substrate again. I've tried to entice them out with bloodworms, but it doesnt work. I've never seen a kuhli do this for so long, and I'm stumped. Any advice?

I would like to get a tropical fish tank, but that sounds like alot of care, Im always "on the go" so I rarely have time for myself, But I want that commitment plus it would be something beutiful to look at once I get home, just sit back and look at my fish tank.

I know it will be hard at first but with your help I can go in with an educated state of mind and know somewhat to look for.

thank you for your time

I have a 55g aquarium with a variety of freshwater fish (about 20).

The nitrate levels are dangerously high. I've vacuumed the aquarium twice in the past week, and added Nitra-Ban three days ago, but, there is NO improvement.

I took the charcoal out of the filter, because I've been medicating the fish, too.

I can tell this is negatively affecting the fish, but, what can I do to improve the situation right now? My tap water tests fine, but the water in the aquarium is nasty.

Should I empty half of the water out of the aquarium?

Thanks so much!

my 29g tank is being cycled with several zebra danios. it has been almost two weeks and the ammonia level is still at 0.00. yesterday, it was a bit less than 0.01 so i put some bacteria suppliment and today it is at 0.00 again. in order to cycle successfully, does the ammonia level have to be very high at some point? or can i go through the cycle with low ammonia at all times? my other tank had ammonia level at 0.4 and now, no matter how much supplimant or ammonia drop i put in, it will not go down. so i basically failed. i dont want to make mistakes again. please help. what is the whole point of cycling and what is the quickest way to do it?
thank you.

Hello again!

EVERYTIME i add in new fish to my 40 gallon aquarium they always die after 2 weeks. I have a 40 gallon aquarium with one full grown black moor goldfish in it. and an african dwarf frog. everytime i ad in new fish the aquarium seems to get extremely dirty and they new fish die. I have the appropriate sized filer and air pumps for my aquarium. but i just added in 2 more goldfish 2 weeks ago and 3 more african dwarf frogs. one of the goldfish dies last night and the other one seems liek hes abotu to die =(

I took a smaple of my water to the paet store and they tested it for everything (phosphate and nitrate levels) abd they were all normla. I did a 25% water change and added the appropriate medications to make the water safe for the fish.. (i usually do the recommended 25% water change every 2 weeks)

why does every new fish i add into the aquarium die on me! all of the frogs and the full grown black moor are still doing fine.i dont understand!
