Goldfish have much longer memories than 3 seconds. It has been proven. The 3 second memory thing is just a myth.
Anyway, I would doubt that fish have very complex emotions, but they likely have instinct-based emotions such as fear and stress, and also contentment. They are probably all hormone and instinct-driven but then, whose aren't?

Animal instinct is different from emotion. fish or animal do not have soul like humans.

They get hungry they will react in certain way. They are hurt, they will react. They are scared, they will swim or run. However, I am not sure how we see them being happy. They can be seen as "content" than "happy".

I have just found out something recently about my pet fish. I had 3 zebra danios and 2 gold fish. People sayd tropical fish may live well with a group. I got the gold fish afterward. Then 2 of my zebra danios fish died for some reason. I thought this only zebra fish will die soon because of loneliness. But no, it still lives.

Loneliness does not kill animals because they don't have emtion, just animal instinct.

Yes, I think so.

Fish can feel pain. And I've heard that tapping on the glass of an aquarium gives them a headache because of the sound traveling through water.

If you have a lot of fish in a tank and some of them gang up on another one. You may notice the fish start acting nervous.

I am an animal lover all around and I am sure they feel pain but don't think emotions is one of the things God gave a fish maybe someday we can ask him ourselves?

it's been proven that goldfish and other fish actually know who you are..... especially if you are the one that feeds them. :)

I do beleive that fish have emotions. Have you ever seen one when it's long time tankmate dies? it mopes, and sleeps a lot when it's newly alone.

also, when it knows you're going to feed it it gets happy and starts swiming around real quick....

yes, i think they do. some species more than others.

hth!! good day!

A goldfish has a three second memory, I don't think that leaves much time for emotions.
