My beta fish is swelling in his stumach. I would be so sad to loose him because he is the most beautiful red beta. Hes been like this for about a month. The swelling is in the stumach and it is turned white in that area. I need help. NO CLUE WHAT TO DO!

He is either constipated, bloated, or has dropsy.
Do his scales stick out, making him look like a pinecone? If so, that's dropsy.

Otherwise, he is likely constipated. Don't feed him for 3 days, then feed him nothing put shelled pea for 3 days. That will hopefully clear out his intestinal blockage.

Another possibility would be a tumor, which would explain it turning white. In that case, there is not much that you can do.

Most betta illnesses are caused by improper care; bettas cannot live in bowls / vases. They need swimming room (5 gallons is fine), heat (80F - just like in their native Thailand) and filtration for clean water. Give him a nice, 5 gallon heated and filtered tank, and that will be his best chance at recovery.

I regret to inform you that this is most likely a tumor. After experiancing this several times, and researching the heck out of it. I found that %50 percent of all Betta fish over 1 year of age will grow tumors. The good news is a Betta with a tumor can live a long life if you follow a few simple steps.

1. Try to keep the water between 70-80degrees.
2. Attempt to change the water once a week (if not all then at least a cup or two).
3. If you have one of those friendly repsonceve betta's then make sure to pay a lot more attention to it. I know it sounds crazy, but when I noticed my last little guy show the beginings of a tumor, I began to talk and play with him more and I noticed he was a lot more active and seemingly happier then all my others who simply lounged about until the end came. (however I must say he was also the most outgoing fish I ever met...I think he thought of himself more as a person then a fish...)

I hope you enjoy your friend to the fullest as long as you can!

My betta was in the same condition. I put some aquarium salt in his water he took a big poopy and I changed his diet and fed him some dried blood worms along with his betta pellets and he hasn't had a problem again. The dried blood worms are roughage (like lettuce to us) anyway mine didn't have an area turning white so I hope for you and your fishes sake it is only constipation. Good Luck

I hope you don't have another beta in the tank. Sometimes when you hold a mirror up to a beta it blows up in defense. It thinks that it has another beta with it. If you tend to do this to many times it can kill it. Make sure you don't have anything near it's tank to see it's reflection in it. Good luck!
