We purchased the 40-gallon tank with all the guppies included. During the 1-hour or more transfer from tank to tank, we didn't lose ONE guppy, so now we have probably 30 or so adults/teenagers/babies. Including 5 or more pregnant females. I remember the guy I purchased them from said there was a way to change the water temp or something so they slowed or even stopped breeding. Is there truly a way?

As per my other question about my ill pleco. When I had a fish tank in the UK the shop there advised to add aqauarium salt when I introduced new fish. I now live in Turkey and they don't sell aqauarium salt here, is there an alternative?

I have just bought a new pleco about 3 hours ago, he looked fine in the pet shop. But ever since I put in the tank all he does is float about in a vertical position. He sucked on the glass for a few minutes and then 'fell' off. He is about 5 inches long and looks healthy. What can I do?

I knew when I made the decision to make my 40 gallon into a cichlid tank , that they would take over. They took on sharks 4 times their size , tiger oscars were no match. I don't mean to come off as sounding cruel , although I know I just did. But I like the cichlid tank. Nothing has colors like those Malawi cichlids.

He's eating ok, and seems normal except for the fact that he's the wrong way up, its almost like he needs to get rid of some air or something. Any suggestions?

She got 2 goldfish for a 1 gallon tank. This was our convo via messages.
I wrote her in a nice way that 2 goldfish cannot live in a 1 gallon tank and proceeded to explain what goldfish actually needed. I also provided a bunch of links backing my info up. THis was her response exactly copy and pasted from her reply to me " From: mommyof2

Subject: Re: fish

Message: yes every pet store i called and asked in this city lied to me about gold fish not being a good fish for my little tank, yup i believe that.
and yup getting one beta fish for the tank isnt
mean, just letting one fish swim around by itself is just dandy " Note the sarcasm.

I replyed that they were infact wrong and that its not fair to the fish and that she is teaching her kids to be irrisponsible.

Her last reply " From: mommyof2

Subject: Re: fish

Message: go try to pawn your advice on someone else, maybe they will believe your hot air "

Absolutely disgusting.

and yes i know that cheapest and good never really go together but, what is a good repatuable cheap filter for this tank size? and since I have decided against live rock untill I get enough money for it make sure it is a 3 in 1 filter or whatever it has to be. Thanks!

We have a salt water aquarium. 50 gal. My husband isn't too pleased with the performance of the filter we have. He asked the owner of a salt-water fish store what he recommended upgrading to. He suggested that he upgrade to a REALLY good protein skimmer and get rid of a filter all together! I'd never heard of such a thing!
Has anybody done this? Any advice or cautions?
Thanks!

My betta fish kinda did this thing where he got big, like a puffer fish. I have no idea what was wrong with him, and I'd like to know!

He died shortly after he inflated.. and kinda made a mess in the tank, a few people said that he was just constipated, but I don't think he was! Any ideas?
