What kind of cichlids? There are hundreds of good answers.Africans eat "aufwuchs" look that one up.Other cichlids eat other cichlids fry. Still others have a diet of snails. Some can't tolerate a diet with too much meaty stuff in it,(a rich diet will kill some Mbuna). Peanuts? No! All the diets mentioned above all occur in just one of the Rift Lakes, and that's not even a complete list for one lake.PeeTee.

I feed my cichlids regular cichlid sticks and shrimp pellets. I keep live plants in the tank and they eat those too. The plants are pothos, not really an aquarium plant but it works great as one and is super cheap to replace when they're done munching on it. I've heard you can feed them lettuce too, but I've never done it.

Oh, if you have a plecostamus, try putting a small section of zucchini in the tank (you'll have to weight it down). They're crazy for it.

Cichlids have a lot of favorites. I like to feed mine a variety of things, such as hikiri cich pellets, Brine shrimp, bloodworms, small feeder rosey reds and peas. You must be careful not to over feed or your nitrates will rise.

I have 5 oscars, I feed them (cause they are still small) Oscar bites, which is a food made for baby oscars (you can purchase them at Petco), it helps with their color and growth. I also feed them pellets, plankton, occasionally small guppies, blood worms, brine shrimp...they will eat anything!!
*Please dont feed them chopped heart or liver, it is not nutricious for them, just a cheap way to keep them alive.

Try some chopped heart, liver, etc. Also include green peas and stuff.

yeah, that won't be a problem. good thing about bottom feeders is that they'll be fine eating whatever they want to eat.
