That is VERY odd I have raised convicts. I started out with 2 & ended up with 200. The parents are usually aggressivly protective (both parents) Convicts need a hiding spot that the male can cover as a look out post. If you have other fish in with them the convicts may be out numbered , but will evintually fight to the death. If no other fish are presently in with them try feeding them twice daily & u MUST have baby fish food for the babys. If the parents know the babies are sickly from hunger or something else, they will eat them.

I would say make sure there are no other fish in the tank with her. I would even suggest removing the male from the tank after the eggs are laid. Once the fry are swimming, remove mom from the tank as well, they will do fine without her.

You are blessed,Convict Cichlids are breeding machines, and if they start raising their fry you will have a disposal problem.PeeTee ----------- However if you must raise Convicts probably a larger tank(or less crowded one) would help.---- Anyway eating the first six clutches of eggs is not unusual for South American Cichlids.

Remove the adult after the fry are born. They naturally do that. It is the only way that you will insure that the fry will live.

If you are referring to the momma fish eating her babies, you are supposed to seperate them after the babies are born. Go to Wal-Mart, they have little nets to seperate the babies from the other fish. Or simply buy another aquarium to put the babies in. You can buy the one gallon aquariums for about $10.00, they come with everything, except gravel, food and of course the fish! Good Luck!

You could try and seperate the tank with a sheet of glass to stop them getting at each other?

Saves on buying a new tank
