He's eating ok, and seems normal except for the fact that he's the wrong way up, its almost like he needs to get rid of some air or something. Any suggestions?

Your goldfish is having an air/ swim bladder problem. You can try to help him by hand feeding him a little bit of mashed frozen peas (by hand) .
Sometimes changing the tank around helps, I think it is because of the increased exercise. Also adding an air bubbler helps.
There are 2 major causes of swim bladder problems: genetic reasons and dried food.
Ok, this started because you feed your golfish those dried flake or pellet or whatever-u-have .Those are not bad things to feed them, it is just what caused it You will need to hold off on that food for a few days. Instead, feed it with boiled skinned peas. Boil a pea for few mins, pop out pea flesh, mash it up, and hand feed. Swimbladder problems are caused by fish gulping in air when feeding from the surface or air from inside food. its common in goldfish cos the swimbladders are more deformed than other fish making swimbladder problems more frequent. After feeding it peas, it should go back to normal.
When going back to the normal food, pre-soak it so it does not float in the water when feeding your fish.
If it's genetic, then it can't be fixed. But it also won't hurt your fish either. My fish is 5 years old and has this issue off and on.

Swimming With Goldfish

It's swim bladder disorder. You need to fast the fish for 2-3 days, then feed it fresh peas that have been steamed or boiled, then remove skins and mash. If this doesn't work, increase the temperature of the water to between 78-80 degrees and add epsom salts: 1/8 teaspoon per every 5 gallons of water. If this doesn't work, treat with Maracyn or similar product. Swim bladder disease can be from several causes such as constipation, gulping air, parasites, bacteria, or genetic. Anything but genetic can be cured if it is caught early enough and treated properly and faithfully. Please read the link for more detailed information on causes, treatment and future care and maintenance. Good luck!

it truly is swimbladder. you want to provide up feeding for 2 or 3 days. also feed your fish peas to help him expell the bloat. Then make confident you soak nutrients so as that that is softer, and nutrients that falls to the floor is likewise safer, so that they dont gulp in a group of air on the right.

There is something "FISHY" about this. It is practising Synchronizing swimminh may be! Try getting it a mate! If it already has one, change it , poor thing must be bored with the same fish.
For a fish to be happy you need to have more plants inside and play things for it to swim in and out!

I had a fish that did the same for the last three years of his life. He used to sink quite a lot too. However, sometimes when my pals are round, we clear the living room table. Everyone picks a fish - pulls it out of the water - and we race them across the table. Even though he was crap at swimming, old upside down fish was the fastest out of the water. I won quite a few quid on him, God rest his fishy soul.
