Fish - December 2006

i bought 2 goldfish and set up my fishtank, but all they do is hover together beneath this shell I have, and don't eat the food or swim around or anything. how do i change the pH of the water for them to be more confortable or like what should i do!?

i have 4 - 2.5" tiger oscars, how much of a nightcrawler will they each eat (about how many inches of the worm each)? do oscars stop eating when they are full or do they keep eating? how often do i feed them a day? what kinds of foods do they eat?

My bettas come to the top of the tank when I call them for dinner or when they hear my voice. I'm the only one that feeds them. =)

I am having problem with my aquarium and the pet store is NO help. I moved to another area where the tap water isn't great. I think this and a few new friends led to ich in my tank. I am in the process of medicating, and some of the fish seem better, but my large plecosomas(bottom feeder) has white spots all over him. How do I help him and what can I do about water quality with out over chem-ing my tank. Can I get the water from elsewhere??

As mentioned above could you pls. provide me how to produce more mucus on the bodies of discus fish.

Also it is observed that may discus fish eat their eggs before it is fertilised. How to avoid it and what are the reasons for it. Can we separate one of them and see the results?

I am thinking of purchasing some aquarium sand tomorrow, but I would like to spend the night doing some research on how to maintain, clean and the benefits of aquarium sand. The tank is a 16 gallon freshwater tank with 2 kribensis cichlids and zebra danios. Thanks for the info.
