It could be a couple of things. Lack of oxygen could be it. What size tank is it in? Mollys need a 20 gallon tank minumim. 10 gallons is fine for 1 if it is the only fish in the tank. Check your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings too. If you did not cycle your tank than your problem is for sure high ammonia. Do a big water change and things should go back to normal. Then you will need to change about 50% of the water every day until the tank is cycled. The last thing it could be is disease. I am an experienced fishkeeper but I only buy the best fish so luckily I don't know much of disease, you will have to talk to someone else about disease.

Hey...
Do you know what? My fish was doing the same thing. I have found out that they have a disease for fishys when they do that. My zebra danio had a sickness called Red Pest. My fancy goldfish had Ich. If you have other fish in the tank with the other fish, you need to take out those fish RIGHT AWAY! It will infect the other fish and they will probably end up dying. Save the other fishy lives! Just keep that molly in a separate tank and give it special attention. You will have to give it medicine made for the disease. Can you put more details on how the fish looks physically? Like does it have white or black spots on it that you didn't notice before? Any unusual things? Note that in the details. Just make sure the water level is right, make sure all the chemicals in it are perfect and normal, just give it special attention like that to it. I hope your Molly lives!

I would guess bad water quality. Do a water change and fast. What tank is it in? Have you already tried medication? Often fish get stressed when you overmedicate. I would need more information to give you a better answer.

He may have a disease called "velvet." If he does you did the right thing by removing him. If he gets a fine white coating of fur on him that's what it is. If any fish in your big tank display any of these symptyms treat it immediately. It's highly contagious and usually fatal.

It sounds alot like there isn't enough oxygen in the tank. It could also be very sick, I would personally take down the symptoms, and go to your local fish store, or your vet see if they know anything else.

That doesn't sound good....is the water quality good? Have you put medicine in? If you call a good aquarium shop they may be able to recommend a good medicine to put in & hopefully make him better. I've found I've saved a few fish in the past with medicine. I sure hope your molly is feeling better soon.

Your tank is lack of oxygen maybe because its too small or they are over-crowded. Put water plants(ex. java moss, water lilies). Or else put an air pump. Happy fish keeping!â»

Hi-
I think what is happening is that your ammonia is extremely high and into nitrite alredy. I would suggest you changing 50% of the water to clear some out every two weeks.

Are the other fish in the tank okay? Mollies usually prefer brackish water...do you have any salt in it?
