First, it's important to keep the temperature at a stable level at all times, don't let it fluctuate. Then, as others have said, somewhere between 76-82F is optimal. I keep mine at 80 and the fish thrive. However, in summer when we have the occasional heatwave, our tanks have climbed into the 90s and the betta survive (other things like shrimp have died en masse). If I'm home I turn on the fans to blow across the surface of the tanks to bring the temperature down by at least a few degrees (close all the blinds and shades & wrap the tanks in dark blue or black to darken them. It's not a good thing but bettas can withstand that high temp and don't necessarily need an air hose to increase the oxygen in the water because they can gulp some air from the surface (but in the big tanks, I toss in an air line anyway just to increase the evaporation and dissolved oxygen).

Bettas need a temp between 78-82 degrees. I would say 85 max. But that a little high.

As the posts above say, 75-80 is good. You should probably stick to the mid range though, because betta tanks are usually unfiltered and small, so in higher temperatures things will foul faster and you will end up with a high ammonia level which is toxic to your betta.
