any fish can get bloat. With oscars they are more prone to get "hole in the head" or "popeye". Which is easily treated with "melefix" by aquarium pharmasuticals. Most problems will be due to the high amount of nitrates in the tank. Nitrates indirectly kill fish through fungal and bacterial infections. I would recommend purchasing a full chemistry test kit for freshwater so you can monitor your babies. As per food, oscars being the messy eaters they are should get a varied diet, primarly a good pellet diet i prefer the brand Omega One due to the better ingrediants. Second feed them shrimp pellets to naturally enhance the oranges and reds in their scales. shrimp pellets "poof" up in the water so only drop them in as the fish eats them do not pour them in !!. Feeder fish should be feed in moderation if at all, feeders misc. body parts will cause the water quality to get high ammo and nitrates leading to fish illness. As per mating them, you will not be able to sex them until the are full size, when you can sex them remove the other fish so only the pair is in one tank together.
