probally not the filter, the fish where probally sick then either where to weak to move from the filter or were already dead. To effectively keep angels, you must first have a already cycled tank, ( had other fish present for a consistant month) secondly they prefer really soft acidic waters with p.h. around 6.0. To mimic this purchase several pieces of driftwood from a petstore( my 125g has 4 large pieces) this will keep your water at the correct perameters. Also keep water temp around 80 degrees. Enough about housing.. once you purchase and introduce angels make sure you are properly acclamating them, Remember to mix the water from your tank with the petstores water as the fish float n bag. It may take some time to drop the p.h. in the bag for the angels, the only way to know is to have a p.h. test kit and to test the water yourself to makesure your not intoducing fish to soon. Also during feeding feed frozen bloodworms along with the flake foods for optimal results.

Have you gotten it out of the filter? I think you should probably be checking for illness and adding in a little Melafix to help the torn fins grow back. Isolating this fish in a hospital tank (if you keep your angelfish in a community tank) will help. If you cannot use a filter, just aerate the hospital tank (using an air pump, tubing, and maybe an airstone) and change the water more often than you would a tank with a filter.

You really need to leave the filter on at all times. Unless you have it all alone in a 300 gallon tank, it is only going to last a few hours.

But that said, a healthy fish will not get stuck on the filter. You angelfish is sick so you need to see if you can figure out what is wrong with it.
