I have two koi and 7 goldfish (comets etc) in a 1500 litre pool. The koi are fine but the goldfish are all starting to suffer from ulcers. They go from small to awful over a period of a few weeks and I've lost 5 so far. Am using Acriflavin in the pond, and potassium permanganate as a short bath if I can catch them when it gets bad.
I think the ulcers start from small scratches which they get when chasing each other around.
Any Help???

Last year I got an bottom feeder and he's been awesome. He cleans all the leftover food and I would recomend them to anyone. But, now he doesn't do very much but once in a while he will shoot to the top of the tank and the he swims to the middle, and then to the bottom again. He's never done this before. Is he just getting old or is it something else?

I have beta fish and have had him for 5 yrs. To be honest...I usually only clean him once every couple of weeks....I only feed him every couple of days, and I use tap water that I let sit for a few hours (with a drop of Chlorin-Out). Obviously, my care of him has kept him happy this long! :) BUT...lately he his at the bottom alot, doesnt come swimming over when he sees me coming anymore, and I know this sounds weird...but his eyes look bulgy and sick. He is still eating some....but not racing to the top for it like usual. Is he just getting old? And if you dont think that's the case....any other suggestions? Can't wait to hear some answers! Thanks!

I made many mistakes with my 5 gallon tank and would like to not repeat them with my new 36 gallon tank. I've already got the filter, heater, gravel, air pumps/air stones and water in. All chemical levels are fine and heater is working. The heater is set to 79 degrees, the gravel was rinsed before being put in, and I treated my tap water with Stress Coat (10 ml. per 10 gallons or 4 caps worth). I planted four small plants. How long should the tank operate before adding fish? I've heard 24 hrs., 48 hrs., and 3 to 5 days from different aquatic stores. Please give me an explaination with your answer as to how long I should wait so I understand - since I've heard so many different ideas, I'm not sure what to believe. I'm not in a hurry to rush out and buy fish - I'm willing to wait to do this right. Also, I'd like to know what some good starter fish are that won't be aggressive. I'm used to using guppies but would like somethign different. I will not consider goldfish as they're dirty.

I have a 29 gallon tank in my office. It is not over populated and regular water changes or done. It has been up and running for a about year with no issues and very little loss of fish. What would cause the water to go from crystal clear to green and clouded over night? There is also a definite odor coming from the tank.

My wife and I have a 50galon fish tank that we bought from a friend. The problem is, that the tank has a couple of white spots on the glass that we cant remove. The tank was left in our friends garage for several years before we bought it. They didn't clean it when they put in in there. They just dumped the water and left it at that. Thanks for all serious answers.

I have a 10 gallon aquarium. I had fish in it for 1.5 weeks, but had to return them. I have had no fish for 3 days. My ammonia is at about 1.0mg/L and my nitrites are at about 3.0mg/L. I don't want my bacteria to die because there is no ammonia, but I know the water is toxic to fish. I tried to find pure ammonia, but all that I can find has fragrance. I don't know if I should put another fish in there, or just use like fish food or if I should use the ammonia with fragrance. What should I do, I'm at a loss.

Right now I have a well established tank with plastic plants. I'd like to make it a planted aquarium, but I think I'll need to take out the current gravel and put down a layer of Flourite in order for plants to do well. Also, I have an undergravel filter (in addition to an external filter) which should probably go as I've read that it upsets the CO2.

What should I do with my fish while I'm making these changes? Are they alright just staying in the tank or should I bag them and do something else with them? Thanks for your help!

Is it okay to put sandstones in my fish tank? If not, is it okay to have river rocks? If none of these are okay then what kind of rocks can I put in my guppy tank to have a natural looking tank?
Thanks!
