Because they like the colour, or because it's the one in stock of the car they like.
Personally I like maroon.

In a recent study of that very question it was found that 83% bought maroon cars to express their sexual frustration. Another 12% refused to answer the question and became abusive to the interviewers. The remaining 5% were color blind and had thought their cars were blue.

For the same reason we buy silver, red, black or any other colour. Personal choice.

They want something that is not dull but not "in your face". It is a rather "mature" colour and will not attract too much attention like bright red or mustard yellow might.

For me it was because it was the price, make, year and mileage that attracted me. The color really didn't matter. The car looked great too.
My sister-in-law said it looked sexy.
