i'm wondering why my african butterfly fish have lost their scales and turn lighter. Would ich cause them to lose their scales? I think they are pale because they have lost their scales. How long can they survive? I am trying to fight the ich with Quick Cure and Salt.

i bought 2 tiger barbs yesterday and i put them into my tank and one seems to be doing fine but the other is just staying the same spot and is just opening and closing its mouth, is this something to be worried about or is it just normal?

I have 3 fish I give them food they all come up and eat,but one of my fish swims up and just catches bubbles instead of food. The fish keeps doing it until its fin touches the food, then it goes to where it felt it and eats. Also when you look carefully straight into it's eye the pupil looks blank instead of pure black like the other fish.

I started a guppy tank awhile back and these black snails just appeared in there. Since then they have bred like crazy and we have over 2 dozen. Well, I just noticed a white thing and thought it was a fish that died but upon closer view, its a white snail! Since I only have black mystery snails, where did this white one come from and is this something that happens often? Should I keep it seperate?

we bought a house and the previous owners gifted us their fish tank. it's an 100 gallon, maybe 125 gallon.. there are 4 blood parrot cichlids (about 6-8 inches each), a tiger barb and an 18-20 inch pleco. he's an older fella (about 10-14 years) and i'm worried that he's not getting enough to eat. i put a leaf of lettuce attached to a rock but the cichlids have gotten to it first and the pleco seems unsure of it. i've plopped in dried algae tablets but the cichlids get to those, too. i know having a pleco this size is very rare, but i'm hoping someone can give me some suggestions. thanks!

I'll give the 10 points to the person who can tell me the most goldfish facts. A fact that I want to know is: How much memory do goldfish have, or: How do you tell the difference from a male and female goldfish, and others.

My boyfriend was in a pet store and they had a new animal, a supposed miniature fresh water dolphin. It apparently grows up to 24 inches and they insisted it was actually a dolphin. I cannot find any information about such a species and am thinking that it is probably just a fish that looks like a dolphin (i.e. rainbow sharks are actually a cat fish), I would love to know more about it, if anyone has any information. It would seem to me that if it were an actual dolphin, it would be cruel to be selling them as pets, never mind illegal.

I went to the pet store yesterday and for some reason the person who was in charge of the fish did not want me to buy any guppy feeder fish he said the oscar and parrot ate good last night so they will be fine until Tuesday. Thats when they get their shipment in of Guppys. I think he wanted to take the guppys home for himself because there were only about 20 left.

My mollie is pregnant and I was just wondering if anyone knew how long they are pregnant for. When I bought her she was pregnant, which I found out when I got her home. I have had my mollie for just over a week now.

My fish keep dying! I have a 20 gal freshwater tank, temp set at 78 degrees. I had some blackskirt tetras in the tank but gave them to a friend. I then bought new fish and a pleco and introduced them to the tank. My pleco is doing great, but the other fish -- a silver molly, a black molly, several guppies, and two blue danios -- died within 2 days.

I took a water sample to the pet store and everything was fine. The nitrates were good, the ph was good, the ammonia levels were good. The pet store told me to add a bit of salt to the tank, do 5 gallon water changes ever day for 4 days, the whole routine, just to be sure. I went back on the 4th day and my water STILL tested good, so brought home 2 adult mollies and 6 baby mollies.

They all died within a week. The babies lasted longer than the adults. What could be going on if the water tests fine and the pleco is thriving?
