well thank you, i feel better about having the amount of fish that i have in the tank that i do. (3 pacu's in a 10 gal. , 3 balas, 3 algae eaters, 2 catfish, 10 shrimp, and one funky thing that i always forget the name of are in a 29 gal. tank) i was afraid because i had all the ones in the now 29 gal. tank in the 10 gal. tank at one time. i thought i was making them (not overcrowded, persay) but cramped. but now my fishes are happy because they have more room.
thanks for the website link, too.
peace.

He is right to a degree, but few people want to go to the effort of properly maintaining a tank. (Nor understand how to do so.) If you have a good hanging power filter with good biological filtration in addition to the normal chemical, and mechanical filter. Don't over feed. Regularly do water changes. Avoid adding to many fish at once. And monitor your ammonia levels. You can put 5 goldfish in a 10 gallon tank without much issue. It's not ideal, but it will work.

The basic problem is the average goldfish owner isn't going to spring for a decent filter. Or maintain the tank correctly. That's why you see people on here that honestly believe gold fish only live for a couple of months. People want simple answers that you can state in one sentence. If you give them a complex answer they may often just accept part of the answer. I gotten emails weeks later from people who claimed I said they could just do something. When I looked up what I said i find I said. "Sure you can do that, but...."

No, it's not a myth, it's true. It's true because if you have 1/2 gallon per fish, you'll be sorry to see them dead in a few days, probably 3-5 days!! To prevent this, you should do 1 gallon per inch of fish as minimum, medium amount would be 3 gallon per inch(this would be best), and most is unlimited or is a pond. And if you think that it's a myth, then you're a very dumb fish owner. Also, do you even own a fish or owned one before? I did, in fact, I owned 30 and they are all dead right now and so I give up with fish.

Anything in a crowded place doesn't do as well. I have a 45gallon fish pond with 7 fish that have been growing nicely for months now. They are very healthy and happy. I had 8 but some little furry critter had lunch on me : (

They're just everywhere these days, man. If we don't fight back, they will take over.
