that is ich. you need to go get some ich treatment and use it every other day until the ich is gone. if it's already attacking the fins you haven't got much time.

Well I doubt it's ich/ick as that would look like grains of salt. This sounds like fin rot, or a fungal infection. The word misty makes me wonder if it could be vevlet. Velvet is hard to diagnose unless you turn out the lights and shine a flash light on the fish. Under the flash the fish would look like it's covered by a fine gold/redish mist.

In any event you need to change the water, and clean the gravel. (Be sure not to subject your betta to rapid temp shifts.) Add one teaspoon of table salt per 2.5 gallons.

fin rot or fungus- Treat with a paired antibotic, and antifungal agent. (Fin rot often leaves a fish open to fungal infection)
example:
-maracin 2 & maracin 1
-pimafix & melafix
-trisulfa & jungle fungus eliminator (this is the most powerful mix)
Note that you can mix match these, but be sure to mix antifungal with antibaterial.

Velvet- Most Ich/ick meds, and treatments are effective against velvet. Read the label and select one that claims to work against velvet.

It could very well be a fungus, the most common being "ick". If the fish started out with a few white spots towards the top of the body and spread to the fins, there are several ick remedies and general anti-fungal remedies available at anyplace that sells fish. Good luck!

It sounds like it might be ick. If they look kinda puffy and white, it's ick. If it's more spread out and small, it's some other parasite which all can be treated with medication from a fish store. They can help you figure out what it is as well and some even have pictures of the diseases so you can identify it. Any pet or fish store will be able to help you. Just don't let it go on too long or it will eventually kill everything in the tank. Hope this helps!!

ICK looks like small grains of salt stuck to the fins. It doesn't sound like you have this. It sounds like you fish has Columnarius, a fungus. You can buy a treatment at any pet store that sells tropical fish supplies. Good Luck!

Fungus. Get some drops to treat the water, and follow directions or it will kill the fish.
