I prefer feeding live ghost shrimp to newly acquired lionfish. Before you introduce the shrimp to the lionfish tank, feed these crustaceans a nutritious frozen prepared food. Then, feed the shrimps to your lionfish. Drop the occasional thawed, frozen food in the tank at the same time in the hope of teaching it to eat frozen food. Feed it about every third day, enough to see a slight bulge in his belly

I had one that I grew from 5" to 14", got so big I had to give it to the local fish store that had a 1,400 gallon tank. You can feed them frozen or freeze dried krill, silver sides, squid as a treat, other frozen cubes if yours is big enough to eat them whole.
Also, what kind of lionfish do you have? Is it a dwarf or a regular volitan? And don't feed it too many live fish, every one you feed it gives it a higher chance of getting a disease from one. I used to feed mine a couple every few weeks.

What a moron! He sells them but knows nothing of them? All I know is that they are vicious carnivores. They probably eat other fish. Call a better fish store than the one you got him at. Those things are expensive! I hope there's nothing wrong with him (considering he came from idiots)!

Some are trained to eat frozen food, such as frozen brine shrimp and squid-check with your pet store for supplies. Otherwise, smaller fish and shrimp.

I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THEY EAT OTHER FISH BUT IF YOU HAVE OTHER FISH WHERE YOU PUT HIM HE ALREADY HAS FOOD. I KNOW FOR SURE THAT YOU CAN'T KEEP CLOWN FISH WITH THEM B/C THEY THINK THAT THEY ARE SNACKS. I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD CALL A GOOD PET STORE THAT CARRIES SALT WATER FISH.
