Fish - August 2006

They'r swimmin at the top of the water on their sides, upside down, and in very shallow area's. This behavior is far from their 'norm'. I DO have a filter and pump that creates a waterfall between the 2 levels. The only thing different I can think of is earlier yesterday, i had to switch the food from goldfish to tropical (which is a couple dollars more and supposed to be a higher quality food....?)

i just got a goldfish from a carnival haha.. we will see how long it lasts , but what type of water should i use? is tap water ok?

How much would it cost. I just wont a few fish and some coral nothing too expensive. Is it really that hard to keep up. This guy at the pet store tried talking me out of it. I really dont worlk much so i would have time. I have lots of expeirence with fish. I have had them all my life.

we used to have a lot of fish and they live for a long time and then a few died. when we got new ones, they died too. this kept on going everytime i got new fish and i dont know why. i do have a filter and the tank is cleaned every 2-4weeks. does anyone know why they keep on dying?

I heard that it was 1 fish per gallon but my tank is 55gals. I know i can't put 55 fish in there. I do have about 22.

about 4 months ago i transfered my goldfish from his tiny bowl into a filtered gucci tank. weeks later i introduced some mountain minnows (4) a small loach and another goldfish. they all get along fine and with the extra room in the tank the goldfish has nearly doubled in size and looks active and healthy.
its only over the past 2 months that the transformation has taken place, and slowly its changed from gold to white.
there is still flex of gold in its fins but thats it.
i dont really mind as i think its getting quite old now and maybe its going gray or something, i am just intrested to know if anyone else has an explination.

There used to be (still is?) a Japanese shop in Leeds that sold highly aesthetic glass ornaments with very small fish in them. They used some kind of weed to create a living ecosystem, so there was no artificial aeration etc. Does anyone know anything about these kind of aquariums and how to set up and maintain one?

I know that if i put 2 together they'll fight, but what if i put like six of them together? Rainbow Sharks will fight each other....but not if you put 6 or more together. Is it the same situation?.......Has anyone tried to put more than 2 beta fish together?

Ive got tetras but had 10 and 7 died from tetra disease, the others survived with treatment. Have treated the water and its been 2 weeks (also changed 1/3 water). Was goung to buy tiger barbs but they too aggressive, want a plecco but heard it needs lots of vegetation. What hardy fish can i buy to get my tank going?
