Fish grow as a result of stress.
You can have two fish from the same batch of eggs. They can live in the same water and have access to the same food. One will grow faster than the other. The dominate one will grow faster and the other will grow very slowly or not at all.
If you just stuff your fish with food they do what we do when you do that they get fat. It is one way to know if you are over feeding your fish. Fish should be smooth and stream lined. If they have "boney" patches or pinched areas then they need more food. If they start to bulge out along the back (most fish seem to store fat on their backs) then they are eating too much.
Over crowding causes stress
Sudden loud noises cause stress
Sudden movement causes stress
Improper feeding causes stress
Improper water temp causes stress
Water chemistry that is not right causes stress
Abnormal light schedules causes stress
Changeing the aquascape causes stress
Adding or removing fish causes stress
As you can see there is plenty of opertunity for stress in a tank that would inhibit your fish's ability to grow at a normal rate. You can also see why a lot of people think fish don't grow much. They would be shocked at how big fish get when they are in a nice stable environment.

Goldfish need a lot of room, so you'll need a BIG tank to get big goldfish.
From http://www.petlibrary.com/goldfish/advcare.htm
"The fact is that you will need a large tank to keep your goldfish in. For common goldfish or comets, a 55 gallon is optimum (it will hold about 2 or 3 fully grown fish). For smaller varieties, a 30 gallon for 2 or 3 will suffice. It is perhaps better to obtain a large living space for your fish from the start rather than waiting for them to outgrow a small tank before making a transition. Goldfish grow quickly, especially when cared for well, and they will need as much space as you can provide. A small tank or fishbowl does not provide as much space, and can sometimes stunt the growth of goldfish or cause other developmental problems. In a large tank, they will live longer, happier lives, and grow to their full potential. "

put them in a huge tank. My friend has got two goldfish they are abut 6 inches long now and they are about 5 years old. They have seemed to stop growing. Only feed them every other day. They will die if you over feed them.

Make sure you feed a quality goldfish food from a brand like Hikari and don't overfeed. The main thing you need to do is make sure you have excellent filtration and keep up with the water changes, ensuring that the ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites are low.

Do not overfeed them. Goldfish are very greed fish and will eat until they get so bloated that they die. Fish grow big over time and you must wait for it to happen. There really isn't a safe way to make your goldfish "huge"

One thing we found years ago when we kept goldfish was that when we left for a trip and didn't feed them (and the water temp may have dropped too), they seemed to undergo a growth spurt when normal feeding resumed.

feed them in the morning everyday and at night everynight. you'll have to clean way more often though because of the ammonia goldfish create, put them in a huge tank with a good filter, and take good care of them.

DONOT over feed them. Every few months just get a bigger tank....Fish grow as much as the tank will allow them to. Glodfish arent the best fish to do this with though, because they have a short life span.

Depends on the size of their tank. The more room they've got the bigger they'll grow. But don't over feed them, you'll kill'em. Best way is to keep the tank clean, and be patient.
Good luck!

Don't over feed your fish. If you give them a big tank then they will get as big as they can. Don't give them more than they will eat.
