My friend gave me two fishes, and I would like to know what kind they are. They are small, (about an inch) and they have yellow polka-dotted tails.

For my fellow goldie owners who properly (or at least attempt to) care for their goldies, I have some questions for you.

How many do you have, how old are they, how big are they, and the most important; what size tank do you have them in?

Oh, one more question...how pissed off do you get to hear about stupid people who put goldies in bowls and/or can't keep them alive for more than a year?

I have a 10gallon aquarium i have no pump or heater for that size. i have all of the toys and deco ready to be set up, but now i need to know what kind of fish to get. i want something realy pretty, i can buy a pump or heater for it so dont leave those fish out. like bettas, i can get some females and one male, but i dont want plain old goldfish, they are boring, i already have 2 of those, i want a variety of fish in my tank.
like neons or bubble eyed, is there any exotics that can live in a 10gal? just list all the fish that can be kept in a 10gal, dont worry about special treatment or heat or pumps, just tell me the names of all the fish you know of that can survive in a 10gal aquarium!!!

i have two iridescent sharks, a clown loach, two mollys, two goldfish in a 10 gal. tank. its ridiculous that people are telling me i need like over a 100 gal. tank. they were bred in captivity, and the I.D sharks shared a tank with 9 others in like a 7 gal. tank when i bought them. and my fish dont even swim that much, they just stay under the bridge or in plants or at the bottom. do you agree with me that 10 gal is enough?

Okay I have another question up here about fish. Some of the answers said not to get the tank I was going to get. I am definitely getting a 5 gallon tank, so no responses saying buy a bigger tank, not helping my issue. So, which tank is better?

All-Glass Mini Bow 5 or the Marineland Eclipse Hex 5

Just curious, when you see a beached whale it's a big deal. Also, seeing them floating "belly up" would be intriguing if 100s died each day.

I bought a beautiful male red betta w/ white fins from Wal-mart...I also bought a blue/red female...she is very full of eggs, and he has built a bubble nest...I have them in a "double breeding" tank (removable partition)..(the tank is the size of a regular hex tank that you can buy at Wal-mart)...with the partition in, he courts her(spreading fins and wiggling), and she watches w/vertical lines on her body...when I remove it, he attacks her and her lines become horizontal...is this mating behavior? Is the tank to small? I have a fake plant in "her" side of the tank for her to hide behind. Any suggestions? Any GOOD books on mating behavior? HELP! I don't want him to kill her. Any info will help.

Hi. I bought a 3.5 inch goldfish yesterday. also a 10 gallon tank, gravel, and some plastic doodads to decorate - all of which I cleaned very well, and set up to wait a day before I introduce the fish. I know goldfish are very dirty. What sort of filters should I get? Will any sort do? One will be enough? Also, i think my fish is in shock right now; is there anything I can do to make things easier when I introduce the fish, other than the general wait 20-minutes until it adapts to the water temperature change thing? How long should I expect it to be in shock?

I have a 16gal bowfront tank with an external filter which seems to put a decent amount of bubbles in the tank. I also have an air pump hooked up to a bubble wall running along the back of the tank. The problem is, when I run the bubble wall it's hard to see/enjoy the fish because the water gets so frothy. So... how much aeration is enough? Is the filter enough? Can I run the bubble wall only at night when the light is off? Or should I have it on 24/7?
If it matters I have 6 rosy barbs in it right now.
