I have a 10gallon aquarium i have no pump or heater for that size. i have all of the toys and deco ready to be set up, but now i need to know what kind of fish to get. i want something realy pretty, i can buy a pump or heater for it so dont leave those fish out. like bettas, i can get some females and one male, but i dont want plain old goldfish, they are boring, i already have 2 of those, i want a variety of fish in my tank.
like neons or bubble eyed, is there any exotics that can live in a 10gal? just list all the fish that can be kept in a 10gal, dont worry about special treatment or heat or pumps, just tell me the names of all the fish you know of that can survive in a 10gal aquarium!!!

Lots of the fish mentioned can not be kept in a 10 gallon. Angel fish get enormous. Someone said guppies, mollies...are coldwater- they are tropical. You need to buy a heater and a filter. Let it run for a couple of days and then add the fish in a few days.
A pair of Gouramis would be o.k. they could be kept with 3 small tetras and a couple cory cats.

Dwarf African cichlids would be an option. You may be able to fit two or three. These are very beautiful fish but can be delicate. This is a great article about dwarfs in a ten gallon. They give you a lot of info.

"Softballl lover" should stick to softball. Male bettas don't get along together unless they were raised together from birth. Even then those that can survive together are the exception rather than the rule. A 10 gallon tank would basically be a cage match for 2 male bettas. In a 50 gallon tank with lot of cover you could have a couple of male bettas. (Provided you got them use to each other before putting them in the tank together.)
Female bettas are not as aggressive as males, but throwing 5 into a 10 gallon tank.... Well it would turn in an ugly fight, and likely kill off several before they worked out a pecking order.
I suspect that softball lover has seen a tank of bettas raise from birth by a betta breeder. Or she didn't witness the death and destruction in the early days of the tank.
Honestly other than gold fish or bettas you really need an air pump. Then you could have cold water, or hardy fishes like guppies danios, minows.... With a heater you could put in most small tropical fish.

Now wait a second. You shouldn't buy any fish today. Go to the petstore and get an idea of what you would like. Then come home and do research on that fish. Are they compatiable with other fish? Do they need brackish water? Do they require a heater (all fish except for comet goldfish need one)? How big will they get?
10g is too small for a goldfish. Also, you could only have one betta (by itself) in that tank. So, they're out.
You also need to prepare your tank for a few days before you put any fish in. Also, only put them in a few at a time.

well bettas must live in solitude. they will kill any other fish. The general rule is about an inch of fish per gallon. So you can have a total of 10 inches of fish however you divide that up. You can get 10 one inch fish, 2 five inch fish and so on. Usually if you go to a pet store they will have the fresh water fish separated from the saltwater fish and the Community fish (friendly) separated from the Aggressive. Its best to go look at them yourself.
I have 4 Rosey Barbs and they like to swim together. Mollys are fine by themselves. Goldfish are very dirty and let off a lot of amonia which can kill other fish so they are best in a Goldfish only environment. Get a very small algae eater of some kind.
You'll need to set up your tank and run for a day or two and get a temp of about 78 degrees

well first, you need a filter or an underground filter and you need to let that run for a couple days so it can adjust to have fish,
as far as fish, pick some! Usually you want to start out with a molly or platy, they are very hardy and will make sure your tank is ready for other fish. After them you can get tetras, guppies, goldfish, there is ALOT of fish that can go in there, I suggest to go the fish store and talk to someone about what fish you want and what they recommend!
Bettas aren't a community fish, they would have to be in the 10 gallon by their self!! They will fight with the other fish!

If you get a goldfish you can only have ONE in a 10 gallon tank - they make a lot of waste.
IN a 10 gallon you can have 5 - 6 female bettas, you can have neon tetras, or you can have 1 male betta (males fight among themselves)
Make sure you put a filter in the tank and make sure the filter is cycled. Keep a close eye on the water parameters for the first month or so.

Before you buy your fish, set up your tank with water and let it run for a week. This will let it reach an equilibrium and start some of the healthy bacteria to build up. Otherwise, your fish will probably die due to ammonia build up a week or so after you get them. Talk with the people at your pet store. They'll give you some good advice so your tank will succeed.

Otto cats can be a sensible selection. There are also some small kinds of plecos you should probable damage out with. The clown pleco receives to be about 3 inches. The bristlenosed pleco is round 4 inches. regardless of the very undeniable actuality that that's larger than maximum fish in a10 gallon, i do not see that as a lot of a situation. even as they're able to short bursts of %, plecos aren't to any extent further outfitted for consistent action. they're going to stay hidden less than a rock or in another crevice for the daylight hours, and then come out at evening to slowly hoover your tank, so i do not see them as providing a severe factor of pollution on your tank regardless of their length. they provide the impression of being no longer something like bettas, they occupy diverse aspects of the tank, and they are not energetic in the course of the day so that they could be left on my own, and although in the experience that they are not they have sufficient armor to guard themselves.
