I have a 3-year old adopted dog who refuses to have a leash attached to him, even almost biting me in the process. Also, he refuses to walk off of the property. What do do?

I have a 7 month old American Bulldog. It is a short haired breed. She is used to going on long walks in the morning but it is getting cold and she is showing resistance. I feel that if I am all right then she should be and I have been making her go but it hasn't been below 30 degrees yet. On a normal day she is a little resistant anyway because she is actually quite lazy but once we get going she is fine.

So, how do I know if it is too cold for her or if she is just being lazy and wants to go back in the house where it is nice and warm?

I've been reading about the benefits of vinegar in dog's drinking water. I'd love to hear from someone else who does this. What are your reasons for doing it and how much would I use per gallon of water? Any risks associated with using it? If age/weight is relevant, I have a 40 lb adult beagle/retreiver mix and a 23 lb Australian Shepherd puppy.

Thanks so much for any info!

I agree they do not. But neither does the AKC. This is my point, as responsible dog owners wanting to maintain or strengthen a breed need to ensure dna testing, health certification and responsible breeding practices. I do not believe this is a responsibility of either the AKC or CKC. I'm simply making a point that for those wanting to buy a quality dog that are being told to simple buy a AKC animal to meet this requirement is being told a lie. We could go on forever with this point . I again simple ask anyone to call the AKC to see if having a AKC animal gurantees or ensures with good certainty the animals health or genetics. It simple records that the animal is purbred based on the submitted documentation. THis doesn't leave room for fraud? Yes, all of the registries have room for fraud. We are putting too much weight in the value of the AKC, My dogs are reigistered with the AKC, CKC and the APR simplly because their parents were. I was more concerned about health not the AKC papers

That is right, the AKC does requires the parents be recorded with them to pass on the AKC papers. Trust me this permits alot of fraud. Most breeders are not checked, there are not usually dna tested, there is no picture required, no health certification required (just record keeping that certifies the parents were registered (nothing else) If someone wanted to commit fraud it would be easy with the AKC, actually easier because the average person is not willing to sign on confirming picturers are authentic etc unless their part of the fraud. fraud is easily done with the AKC by connecting a parents AKC registration with a new puppie. Lets be honest the AKC is only a ancestry record by name only (for most registered AKC dogs not being showed (which is most of the AKC dogs) To tell an individual that simple because a dog is not AKC registered the dogs isn't healthy, free of genetic problems, purebred and show quality would be a lie. lets push healthy animals not the health of the AKC

And a local animal charity were advertising half price vouchers for vets fees, including this operation.
It only applied to one particular vets, who after contacting said we cannot operate on your ***** as she is too big, and we are only a small practice, ie small dogs and cats only.

So they refer me to their partners down the road, who after contacting quoted me 190 euros to do the operation, then I must pay it and personally claim back half the money from the Charity.

I origanally though that is was some understanding between the vets and the Charity, but it turns out that, the vets charge FULL price and you have to go and CLAIM the money back yourself!

I don't earn much but I am not going to a animal charity and asking them for 95 euros to put in my own pocket! It doesn't seem right. What would you do.

Oh and I know my usual vet charges 150 euros for this same operation! So if was was to go anywhere I should go here and save myself and the charity 20 euros a piece

This is a question for all the dog breeders out there of all breeds.

I read somewhere once that a reputable breeder can be characterized (amongst a long list of other things) as pricing their puppies the same. Not $300 for males and $400 for females. Or $900 for blue eyes, $500 for black and brown.

Everytime I look around at dog breeder websites who seem to have everything that makes them "reputable", such as background checks, vet checks/health guarantees, signed contracts, etc...I still can't think of why gender, coloring, and markings should be included in the price.

Isn't a puppy a puppy, despite all their physical appearance? People say it's for the betterment of the breed and so on, but it sounds to me like getting these "rare" traits just equals a gold mine for a breeder who says they make no profit.

Who's to say a"high quality, rare color" female is any better than the runt in the corner who is almost a year old already about to be a freebie to whoever will take him?

I forget the brand but it had a little toddler calling "come on, Casey!" & a fat little Irish Setter puppy tumbling after her. Fast forward years later & the little girl is grown up now. She calls out "come on, Casey!" & we see an old Irish Setter with a white muzzle & cloudy eyes slowly making his way over to her. I bawled every time I saw it. Does anyone remember this TV commercial?

I have a mother rat terrier that just had a litter of pups. The pups are only 4 days old and the mother is growling at them, when they try to nurse. I do have puppy formula on hand and a heating pad....I just hate to take the mother away if I don't need to. I don't know what to do. I don't know if she will hurt the babies or not....it is not a playful growl. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I'm thinking I want to get my first dog. I'm looking for something smaller and I found this breed that was "adopted" and looking to find him a permanent home. How energetic do you think he would be? I'm ready for the work but will he lie down and settle down if I try to get him? I know the work that goes into a dog I'm just curious about the breed.

we bought our toy poodle when he was around 5-6 months old. Now he's around 7-8 months old and he has no visible testicles. I noticed when we bought him that he had a scar southwest of his dick. Is it possible that his testicles were removed already and the store owner just didn't tell us, or was this just a coincidence? Also, are there success stories out there - i know it's too late for his testicles to drop now, but i also heard it was possible for it to drop later. he only has around 4 months till he's a year old and I'm seriously hoping it drops before then. Thanks in advance for your answers!

My sister's dalmation is going deaf according to the vet. He's 4 years old and already well trained, but she's going to have to re-train him to use hand signals "Sit" "Stay" etc..

Are there any good websites that you know of that might help with this?
