I've never understood this- why do some dogs automatically think to jump up onto something when a human pats their hand on the object?

Why do people automatically assume the dog will do it (some dogs do not)? Why do we "pat the seat" to entice a dog to sit in a certain spot?

triggered by another question, everyone with half a brain knows that there's an overpopulation crisis and that thousands of dogs are being put down in shelters every day (both purebreds and mutts). This question is directed to breeders who claim to care so deeply for the dogs and yet contribute to the overpopulation by bringing more and more into the world when there are far more dogs than there are homes for. What are you doing to create balance? Are you taking action against backyard breeders? Are you requiring that all your pups be fixed? Are your purebreds going only to places where they are needed as service dogs? Are you doing other things, a combination? Or are you like most breeders I know who do nothing other than complain and say "it's not my fault" while they contribute to the overpopulation?

Feel free to rant but BEST ANSWER will go only to a BREEDER who is actually doing something sufficient.

I adopted a dog from a shelter that rescued dogs from a Virginia puppy mill and she still has not pooped or peepee'd outside. I have had her for almost three weeks. I have stood outside for hours trying to be patient with her. As soon as we walk inside she does her business on the newspaper. She is crated when we are not home and is now going in her own crate. I am really disappointed that I cannot get her to go outside. I have even put vinegar around my house to try to keep her from going in the house. Does anyone know why she may be doing this and how I can get her to go outside?

I'm hoping to adopt a female Yorkshire terrier, but am not sure what to name her. I have been on SEVERAL dog name websites and searched Yahoo Answers and found some good ones - Paisley and Argyle. She is going to be a therapy pet so I would prefer something easy on the mind, but not too common.

I have a 3 month old AKC registered lab that I am going to be showing in conformation. She meets the standards to show and has a great temperment for it. I have been feeding her Eukanuba but have recently heard many bad things about it. I am looking for a food that will provide her with lots of nutrition and help her coat, teeth, growth, etc. for conformation. Any ideas of a good, healthy brand?? Also, If you have any tips on things I need to do or have to raise a show, please let me know. Thanks!!!!!

It is the part of a cellphone charger that you hook onto your phone. I'm not sure when she ate it but i'm worried. Will she just poop it out or do I need to bring her in for the vet? Her activity hasn't changed.

I'm not exactly sure if she ate it; i hope she didn't. I don't think she can even swallow something that big. She can't even swallow a whole peanut.

My mom called me & told me that my dog is just laying & tremblin because he is bleeding from his ear & puss is coming out. She put alcohol on him & cleaned it out for him but we have no Idea what it is that he has. We cant afford to take him to the vet its way to pricey for them to just say oh it was a big zit in his ear. What can it be? He is like 2 years old in human years. Hes not a big dog he is mixed with poodle.

I only know CPR for Sm- Animals.
I am in my 3rd year of veterinary medicine.

Question:How can anyone criticize me for saving a dog before the person of a pedestrian car accident.
At least I saved the poor dog.
No life is better than another. All live is Special.

Plus I am not that experienced with Human CPR.....Who wants to get sued.

Was I wrong? or am I right?
WHY do people judge and do nothing allowing the person to die.
I did my part....so I thought?

I bring my dog (pug) to work everyday, it started when he was a puppy and well, he still is a puppy but now that I bring him to work everyday he is starting to have this "I can do whatever I want" attitude, especially when he gets home. He also has really bad separation anxiety. I am litterally only away from him about 20 minutes a day. He will bark whenever I walk away or throw a tantrum and almost hyperventilate about it. I was just wondering what everyone else does with their dogs when they are at work because I am pretty sure nobody is with their dog as much as I am and that is probably whats causing these problems. I cannot let him roam all over the house and I dont really mind him being at work with me but I would really like to stop the separation anxiety problem. Any ideas?

I have seen a lot of this sort of thing in this section. People post honest questions and concerns on here and in return people post rude, unnecessary, unhelpful, and smug answers. What's the point in that? How can you help someone with their dog if all you do is criticize them and talk bad to them? I feel that if a person is THAT passionate about dogs then they should be openly willing to help anyone who needs help caring for their animals. If you are THAT concerned about the overpopulation of dogs then you should be willing to spread awareness of the issue without being vile and offensive. In no way is it ok to talk crazy to someone on here if you don't even know them or their situation and it is definitely not ok to make assumptions about how they treat their animals if have never met, seen, or visited the person. If you care so much about animals then help them by teaching people the do's and don't's of dog ownership.
